(H-RP/PVE) Selama Ashal'anore is recruiting!

TL;DR - Selama Ashal'anore is a RP focused guild that is recruiting. We specialize in believable, lore-following RP*, current content raiding twice a week, out of game events, and a safe environment that does not tolerate drama or toxicity. We've been running strong for three years.

(*This is our RP style - if you're not sure what this is, feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to explain what this is exactly, and help you if you need a hand. It's really more of a guideline, anyway.)

-Recruitment Blurb-

((As of August 21, we are on summer break and guild events are on hiatus. We will likely post a new recruitment thread when we return.))

Hi there. I roleplay a Blood Knight named 'Tholmai Lightbreaker'. Some of you might recognize the guild name from an interview that the former wow.insider published a little bit ago. Unfortunately, that interview is much harder to find now, since wow.joystiq and its related assets have been repurposed. So, let me tell you a bit about the guild. (But I do have a handy-dandy link here, if you're interested in seeing the interview: http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/02/inside-the-fabulous-world-of-blood-elf-roleplaying/)

I run an RP group that was once Blood Elf exclusive, a guild aimed at reversing negative opinions of Blood Elf roleplay, but since then our purpose has evolved.

We are no longer Blood Elf exclusive, and now focus on Blood Elves and Forsaken, and the Eastern Kingdoms as a whole. We allow all races to join, so long as their character has a solid reason for wanting to devote themselves to the Eastern Kingdoms.

As of now in our RP arcs, we have a dedicated group in Draenor, and one in Azeroth. We schedule our RP events (but do not discourage random, free form RP) because most of our members are adults with many important things to do.

Alongside RP, we also have a raid group. We run Hellfire Citadel (normal) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays or Thursdays, and to that effect, we do occasionally recruit raiders. (Meaning, strictly PVE members that do not have to engage in RP if they don't want to.)

We also have members that have an interest in PVP, and spend a bit of time in Ashran, random and rated BGs, and so on.

But enough with the bragging, I'm going to be serious for a second. We have something special here. People that join our group wind up loving our atmosphere so much, they end up wanting to fully commit to the guild. They bring their friends, spouses, relatives, and a few people have actually been talked into resubscribing because our guild was that tempting to them. We're all friends here. We don't play with cliques, we don't allow drama, and we try to remember that we're all here to have fun. My position as guildleader really is superficial here. I'm just a person that happens to hold the guild charter.

If you've got questions, feel free to message me at the website. I'll answer them as quickly as possible.

(Here are some member testimonies. :D)

"I have been in the guild for one year. In that time, I've come to truly think of this guild as my home on wow. We have a strong community of friends, actual friends, and that's what makes this guild important to me." -Elldrea

"I found Selama Ashal'anore back in January of '15 because of a recruitment ad for raid spots for a roleplaying guild. A nice combination with my interests in the game. The environment is warm and friendly, and raiding is skilled, efficient, as well as accepting of unforeseen real life situations." -Loktri

"I've been with the guild for about nine months now. I was pretty new to roleplaying when I joined and was super intimidated, but I'm so glad I did because these guys go beyond just RP mates and guildies... I'VE BEEN HERE A WHOLE BABY." -Rainnea

"I've been here for two or three months now. I joined because my IRL besty had joined, and thought I'd really like the guild, that, and their raid team is pretty decent. I've stayed because I like the raid group, and the guild is a really nice perk." -Xly
(Paraphrased. He grumped at me when I asked him to write this. lol)

"It’s been a few months now, something close to 3 or 4 if memory serves well enough. I had some personal things going on as to why I hadn’t joined sooner but, a good friend of mine, Arariel, gently encouraged me to join after some time. At first I was nervous, since I’ve been on different servers and had myriads of guilds prior, but after a small while of joining I began to see that this one was a little different.

I joined firstly because of Arariel herself since I wanted to spend more time with her. As time went on, however, I began to be more comfortable and see that it wasn’t a guild in which you could be comfortable with just one or few, but many. Welcomed, encouraged and warmed I stayed because it felt more like a group of friends wanting the best for each other than a sort of dull work, as prior guilds were like.

I plan to stay because the way in which everyone functions is for the better of a team, where mutual respect exists, and honour of the guild is a part of building each other up." -Valdrah

"I roleplay a Blood Elf hunter named 'Arariel Silwynn'. I have been with the guild since it was formed, around early 2012. I joined because it showed promise - initially starting as a Blood Elf RPing guild that wanted to stick to lore, and now, every race is welcome, and it blends brilliantly. There was nothing but great attitudes, friendly members, and great leadership. Everything was so open and everyone became friends and family immediately. I have stayed because it's the very same now, the same standards have held in place and kept the guild friendly, positive, and exciting place to be. I wouldn't dream of leaving such a lovely guild behind for any reason." -Arariel

(And more!)

"I’ve been with the guild since the early days and I’m really proud of what we’ve built here. We have a wonderful group of friendly, helpful people who actively enjoy spending time together in WoW and out. While we are often silly on an OOC basis, we are very serious about our RP and developing complex, believable, lore-abiding characters. We have even inspired a number of beginners to create their first RP characters. Our RP is supplemented with regular writing contests and we enjoy discussing and debating points of lore both on our website and our active Facebook group." -Siderite

"I've been a part of this phenomenon just about half a year, and the bond that I've formed with guildmates makes it feel like I've always been part of this group.

What we have here is really special. Emphasis on lore literacy and a welcoming OOC atmosphere make this guild a unique experience that you'll love. Our focus may seem spread in description, but each facet is provided to a level of quality that you'll find a worthy return on your time investment. Raids are fun and productive, RP is entertaining and interesting, and boy do we love our internet culture outside the game! If you're looking for a group you can learn to love and enjoy playing/rping with, give us a try!" -Sodarien

"I joined Salami Ashalanore a few years ago mostly to try out Blood Elf Role Play (henceforth referred to as BERP). Over time the guild evolved and accepted all races and classes, and we were no longer limited to just BERPing all the time. It was grand. The people and atmosphere were great, both IC and OOC.

Towards the end of MoP I took a break from the game, and when I decided to come back, I found that playing on other servers or with other guilds just wasn't the same. SA is who I wanted to play the game with, and still do, even though I don't BERP anymore (or any RP really for that matter)." -Awahuch

(And a few more!)

"I have been with SA from the beginning, for about three years now, and I've loved every moment of it. It’s terribly hard to condense my experiences with the guild into a few short sentences, but I can say they are a fantastic group to RP with. Creative, supportive, smart, and funny. I’ve come to feel that “my” guild is my online family, such is our interactions when I log on. (In and out of game too!) In short: I love this crazy bunch and they are flipping awesome. Join us!" -Twayblade

"I play a character named Atrophy, mainly, in Selama Ashalanore and have been around for roughly 6 months now. I came over because Tholmai has bugged me to for ages and I gave in, seeking a new experience and it helped that we had been good friends for years. I came seeking friends and a good environment to play in and honestly found more of a family instead. I couldn't see myself being anywhere else now. The guild accepted me with open arms, allowed me to be their raid leader and stuck with me through the thick and the thin. Transferring and joining has been the single greatest decision and experience of mine on this game. I hope that some of you can find that same joy!" -Atrophy

Do you remember Vanilla WoW? Geyron the rogue remembers. Geyron the rogue remembers everything. He remembers when the game was about adventure instead of just raiding. About friends instead of ilvl. Selama Ashalanore gave that back to Geyron the rogue. Now Geyron the Rogue does not have to remember everything. -Geyron

We have two set event nights, and then anyone is free (and sometimes given an assignment!) to create an event on an open night. There are people online throughout the day, but we see our most activity in the evening hours.

We specialize in canon-abiding RP

I don't know what it is, but having to specifically mention "canon-abiding RP" sounds pretentious.

I understand that's not the intention, there's just something there.

I can see where it might come across that way, but really it's just that different people are interested in different types of roleplay. We're looking for people who share our interest in characters that fit seamlessly into the Warcraft universe. Hopefully anyone who is worried we might be pretentious would be willing to take a few minutes to talk with us and see that it's really not true. I'm just not sure of a better way to put it.

I can definitely see that. We like to think of it as more of a play style. Boundaries and limitations make the character creation process more fun for us.

We never tell anyone they're doing it wrong, or mock or harass anyone for their ideas or RP style. We just have our own way of doing things.

Of course we know that the lore isn't always 100% specific about certain aspects. In those cases we generally get together and make a decision about how our group will handle it.

A good example is the transportation between Azeroth and Draenor. Originally it was widely accepted that the Draenor mission was essentially a suicide. Since then we have been roleplaying that our group is stuck there and has no way of getting back. Because it is a fuzzy issue that hasn't been addressed in the lore, we will check in with these decisions every once in awhile and see if they are still viable.

ALSO we all really love discussing lore together and often help each other with ideas for character backstories. We even have a writing contest available and members who participate submit stories about their character based on a prompt! We all love reading each other's work and it really rounds out the roleplaying experience.

It may sound pretentious, but I agree with Tholmai and Siderite that it really is just a playing style that generates a lot of fun discussion.

My friend Rainnea is apart of this guild. And loves it. She is always doing RP events with them. Although I don't RP, They have let me sit in and watch a few times. And it is great. A few of them add a lot of humor in their and its quite amusing to watch. I can only imagine the fun a RPer would have participating in it.

Very friendly people, if I were an RPer I would of applied awhile back. Just not my thing though.

Best of luck to you guys!

At first, I had real misgivings about an orc participating in an Order consisting predominantly of Blood Elf and Forsaken characters. Figuring out where Lok'i fits amongst all the pink skins has been rather the easy part, though. Her personality and mentality really grew around the guild.

The hard part is kicking my internet into letting me raid. -_-;

I tried messaging everyone that was listed. I also checked the website out and the recruitment link is broken! haha;

But I am interested and working on getting a high level character on this server.
Thanks!
