I am wondering if anyone openly role-plays as a drow from the Forgotten Realms universe in World of Warcraft. If you do, what is your back-story and how did you get to Azeroth?

I have seen a few players show distaste towards those who do role-play as a drow and some even go into a "nerd-rage" about it. I understand why but I don't see it as that big of a deal.

Consider fanfiction rather than roleplay for that sort of thing (and still expect to be ignored). The lore for drow and the lore for World of Warcraft are two completely different monsters that should continue to be separated, please.

The closest you'll get to a Drow in Azeroth are the Blood Elves, when it comes to the societal structure, I guess.

Blood Elven culture can be described as hedonistic, proud, depraved, cruel, underhanded, etc. Families are probably close in a similar way Drow families are, every member is useful for something, be that as a warrior or an eventual scapegoat after murdering the matriarch/patriarch of your household to gain the inheritance.

Roleplay what you want, man.

Just... accept that the majority of WoW roleplayers do not look kindly on crossovers. This thread is probably your best hope for finding others out there who are also interested in playing Drow. Good luck!

Well those people are rightly justified to act so, you shouldn't ever roleplay anything that isnt from the warcraft universe, it makes no sense lore-wise and it breaks the immersions of roleplay

Thank you Chartreus, but considering that the majority of World of Warcraft role-players don't look kindly to crossovers, I don't think anyone who role-plays as a drow is going to post here. Besides, I'm not role-playing as a drow. I'm just curious as to who does. I will admit, however, that the drow is my favorite race in video games.

To the majority of role-players, perhaps. I, personally, find crossovers very interesting.

you could always really just roleplay a blood elf or night elf...cause Drow are just elves with white hair and black skin so....

The black skin, white hair, et cetera make the drow unique to other types of elves, so role-playing as a blood elf or a night elf is not entirely the same. However, death knight blood elves, with the right customization choices, look very similar.

Crossovers can be interesting.

Outside of the game.

And these forums.

And on fanfiction.net.

The point of the forums and the game is to roleplay within the lore, at the very least bending it slightly makes more sense than breaking it utterly.

But then, you'd totally kick ass and look like a Crossover-Freak-GodMod-Super Saiyan person, so everything will explode *not really* and then you'll totally be ignored.

The way you kick ass is because of the overpowered.. well .. POWERS DKs have, and Drow are more warrior, rogue, and a couple other styles rather than a black-skinned elf with glowy eyes and the power to 'Strangulate' and destroy you on the first hit..

On the subject of crossovers, the thread "a new beginning" was good.

How does a crossover utterly break the lore?

Because those other characters do not belong in Azeroth, they don't exist in Azeroth and you shouldn't bring them into Azeorth.

WoW has plenty of lore, don't bring another's lore into this world.

Do you really even have to ask that.

Bringing something that does not exist in WoW, into WoW, is not real lore.

I don't see it that way. I see it as adding to the lore, not breaking it.

No, no, see, you don't get to add to the lore, Blizzard gets to add to the lore, not you.

So creating a character/person with his or her own history, relationships, et cetera related to the Warcraft universe, or any universe, is not considered adding to the lore?
