Things I cannot abide...

...being a comprehensive list of things I find deplorable, uncouth, and otherwise unsavory, with careful and considered reasoning accompanying.

1: Fences. Really now, a fence is an affront to all good people. The implication that one is incapable of behaving in any manner other than the rudest simply invites confirmation. Plus, if I shot the buck, I damned well demand the right to retrieve it. Sometimes Chumley has a rough time of it, if the beast be of sufficient size...

2: Top Hats. Why on earth would anyone, sane or addled, wear something on their head that looks like nothing so much as the business end of a soot-stack? Is the implication somehow that their thoughts are as filthy as their choice in headgear? Deplorable, really.

3: Corpses, Unburnt. For reasons that surely must be obvious to all educated beings. The reluctance of the recently dead to acquiesce to their proper station is most disturbing. Sit! Stay! Moulder! There's a good lich.

4: Elves. They stink of flowers and rutting. Disgusting.

5: Chocolate. Who invented this? And why? The flavor of cocoa, mixed with a cloying, filmy, miasmic, sense deadening sweetness. An assault on the nose and tongue of whoever ingests it. The very idea of destroying one's sense with this decidedly horrifying mess should cause any decent being to shudder in revulsion.

6: Trolls. Hedonistic savages. Slaves to their baser natures. And they never wash.

7: Travel by sea. If we had been meant to ride 'pon the waters, we'd be fitted with fins and gills. Leave it to the fishes I say. You'll find this fellow secure upon the land, gun and pipe handy at all times. Ahem.

8: Illiteracy. Filled with rage we may be, trodden on most grievously by fate and circumstance we continue to be. But that is not reason to forget our origins, or to discard the fruits of knowledge and civilization. We will be again as we were, nay, greater!

9: Squirrels. How am I supposed to chase them UP the tree?

10: Boredom. The land is in chaos, how is it that I find myself so often with nothing to do? bah. reduced to wiring idle amusements and trivialities. What have things come to?

Futhermore, I cannot stand the stench of burning bodies. Necessity being what it is, one supposes it is better than the alternative, but to see so many of my friends and loved ones going "up in smoke" as it were, it tears at the limits of decency and sorrow.

An insult not to be idly borne, but instead acted upon, with all due ferocity.

Chumley and I, we'll see to't, aye.

What do you have against Elves? How do we have a stench when you Worgens stink like mutts? No one else complains about it.
And the only thing I can not abide by is complainers like you.

Against Elves in general? Nothing, it's just the smell. it's not natural.

At least humans stink of meat and smoke and other, proper, scents. But elves? Flowers, rutting, and in some cases, electricity.

It's not normal.

All of this of course pales next to the chemical riot that follows any gnome or goblin.

This elf is inclined to turn you into a mindless sheep, mongrel. Except that would be an improvement.

Mongrel? Now that, sir, that's just not cricket. Base insults indeed, ahem-hem, you impugn my good Mother and Father, may they rest in peace. I thought you at least had some culture to you, scent notwithstanding.

It's simple, really sir, in the interests of full disclosure and mututal understanding I would be remiss in not admitting my animosity with regards your scent. Tthat in no way means we are "enemies" though, after all, you cannot help your unfortunate condition any more than I can help having a constant urge to tear your throat out because of it. We are what we are yes? But we're less than nothing if we cannot rise above it.

We don't have to like each other to be allies. After all, it's not as if you were some barely clothed, unrepentantly savage troll, or worse yet, a soulless undead horror.

Instead of getting all angry, why not be a good chap and magic me up a pair of effective nostril plugs eh? Then we'll all be happy.

Elves are in-tuned to nature. How is it that are smell of flowers and such would be unnatural? It is like you smelling like a mutt, natural. This is why I do not get along with Worgens...

And "unfortionate condition"? The only less unfortionate here is you Worgen. Your kind are the ones who were mutilated and turned into Demons. Our only bad condition is the lost of our immortality which we will retriever once more. Be carefull of your words Worgen. You have made me an enemy to you, and even more untrustworthy of the rest of your kind.

"retriever once more", oh I say, good SHOW old chap! I do indeed see what you did there! Oh ho, such jollity, such wit! I mistook you for a dour and humorless elf, I see now the error of my ways, you're a right kidder you is, eh wot? Unless of course, you're not.

Smell like a mutt indeed, well, yes, I do, but *AHEM*, at least I smell like what I am, it's an honest representation it is. SO you understand my opinion of the unnaturalness of your particular stench. Unless you really ARE made of flowers and tea-cake parties. (Which given some of the silliness I've seen painted on your "war wagons" would not surprise me overmuch....)

I'd take issue with your last sentence, but...I'm afraid I do not understand what it is exactly you just said.

((OOC: I do hope I run into you sometime, but as we're of such differing levels, I doubt it... regardless, all in good fun! cheers!))

We live among nature, of course we are going to smell like it. It is natural . You yourself are a Wolf, it is natural you smell like a mutt. So yes, your argument is half valid, but the rest of it is ignorance. You my friend, need to open your eyes and look upon the world for what it is, we smell like flowers, yes, we are one with nature. Get on with your adventure and dismiss you ignorant thoughts

(( And yes i find this a very fun thread, I usually hang out in The Blue Recluse in the Mage district within Stormwind. And no I am no child if that is what your trying to get at))

Putting you down would be better. I don't know why Tyrande keeps you...things...around. *sneers* Typical low-borne "compassion". We Highborne have not survived as long as we have by displaying weakness.

I am beginning to understand, I think, how this works. And I am of opinion that it has several flaws.

We've been relocated, to the elves home tree. Promises made of reclamation of our homeland, and it was all very gracious and such, but upon arrival I have been pressured to engage in certain activities. Surprisingly, these activities have nothing to with the injustices perpetrated upon us by the forsaken, but rather involve heavy labor for our new elven "saviors".

In fact, all mention of "The Gilnean Problem", as I have taken to calling it, has vanished. Beyond the bitter and contemptible glances cast our way by these "highborne", we may as well not exist here in Darnassus. Even our King, Genn Graymane, is as much as refugee as we are.

I am even forbidden from hunting the rabbits and other small woodland fauna that infest this city. Prey is prey, can't these elves understand that our need to hunt is a vital part of who we are, a fulfillment, if you will, of our place in the scheme of things?

Nevertheless, I will do as I am asked, for now. But make no mistake, I am no dog to be ordered about, I am a wolf. And sooner or later, I will go my own way.

Night Elves have never enslaved anyone. The only thing that is asked of by others who come to our land is to learn our ways and understand them, and abide by them while you continue to live on our land. Your attempt to maake all Night Elves, even Highborn, seem wrong and prejudice, is a big mistake. We are a peacefull people who only ask that you do not slay certain animals, otherwise the sabers, spiders, fels, demons, and harpies may be slain. So do not act as if our land is so bad or that we are inhumane. You may do as you wish, you may leave our land whenever you wish. I just wish, that you do not open your mouth again about lies or Talanus, Vendross, and I will make sure you never live on our land. And no that is not a threat. It is a promise Worgen.

(( and seriously, NE's have never enslaved any alliance members so don't try to pull that off, Heck if you look around Darnassus, you will see an occasionally Worgen out and about freely doing what they wish. so nice try))

((Oy. What *I* know, and what my character thinks of what he's experiencing? Two different things. More on this subject, from Chauncer's perspective later, I got work to do....))

I suppose I should write a bit more in this journal. Best to keep one's thoughts in order, especially in these trying time, eh what?

Our hosts are, to all appearances, very pleasant, if easier to tweak that I would have suspected. For a race so long lived, hey are as quick to temper as my countrymen, albeit possessed of teeth that are not quite as sharp - if you take my meaning. I cannot escape the nagging notion that not everything is all beer and skittles here in the Great Woodland Palace though. perhaps it is simply my natural paranoia, I must investigate further.

I believe I touched on the "no hunting in city property" bit. Upon reflection, I suppose that's fair enough, I have been granted license to hunt as I will outside the city grounds. Suitable prey would be quite soothing.

I was able to procure some more suitable clothing and equipage from a local merchant. Tonight, for lack of anything else to do, I shall leave my tent in the shadow of the oak and venture forth to this "Darkshore" I've been detailed to. I do this through no particular desire to do our hosts work for them, but rather, to secure resources and knowledge for myself. if I am to ever have hope of returning to my own home and hearth, I must become better trained and equipped than I am. The power of some of these I have seen even so soon into my travels beggars the imagination. The abilities of some of these adventurers send me reeling. And to think not a one of them could be tempted to come to Gilneas' aid during our darkest hours.

But these are bitter thoughts for a book that I hope to chronicle my hopes for the future. Ill fitted to the purpose I wish to guide myself to. Anger is an energy, but bitterness, jealousy, and regret are fertile soil of futility, and I must set them aside, or I'll be mired in a slough of my own making.

It is difficult though. While I am grateful for this second chance, I am feeling most unwelcome. Some of the elves... Kal'Dorei I think they call themselves, although I may have misheard, look at my kind with loathing quite unvarnished. I can only hope, were our fortunes reversed, that my fellow Gilneans would be more....supportive. Then again, given our treatment of our own people when the "curse" first took hold, mayhap I ought not be so quick to make such suppositions as to their nature. Perhaps it is the way of all sentient beings to hate the new.

Bah, pointless drifting again. I shall simply have to prove them wrong, and establish my own value beyond all reasonable, or unreasonable, doubt.

Yes, assumptions gets one nowhere. Again Night Elves are of a peaceful nature unless others give us reason to dislike some one. Just be careful Worgen.

/hands Chauncer a peacebloom necklace.

This is an offering of peace but it should also mask the odor for a while. "Honest representations" of oneself are not always desirable in polite society.

You are not unwelcome among us Worgen but we are unaccustomed to the presence of so many outsiders within the walls of our capital. It is strange and new for us. Both Gilneans and Night Elves need to compromise and make efforts to work towards understanding and acceptance. This will not happen overnight. Nothing happens quickly in Kaldorei society.

In the meantime, the reservations of the most reluctant of your hosts could be assuaged by small gestures such as... bathing.
