Why: Ara has been one of my most changing characters. Most will remember her as the !@#$% from hell, very moody, etc. Then she fell in love. She's retired now, living with her lover and thinking things could never get better then they currently are. :-)

Why: Cjarsa is an angry, angry girl lately. She just wants to break stuff. Or kill people. Or both. I feel her true death might be imminent soon. :-/

To understand my song choices, you have to understand a bit of Meri's character creation, I think. Meriste is a little bit of me as a player and a little bit of inspiration from two other characters. The two songs I picked are both sad, but contain messages of strength and hope. Draenei in general have a horrific past, but I wanted to play on Meriste's unwavering willpower.

The first source of inspiration - part of the backbone of Meriste's concept - comes from the song, "I Move On (Sintel's Song)."

Sintel is a 15 minute film about a young woman - Sintel - who finds an injured dragon hatchling and nurses it back to health. When the hatchling is taken, she goes on a journey to recover it. I won't spoil the ending - it's worth watching: (Fair warning - it's terribly sad.)

At the time that I made the Meriste, I had just finished reading The Hunger Games. I admired the qualities of Katniss Everdeen - young, but resilient; a resourceful provider; courageous in the face of unspeakable horrors; fiercely protective. I decided I wanted those qualities in Meriste. I really like "Safe and Sound" from the new movie.

"Halcyon Harbor" by Masaharu Iwata, from Soul Calibur IV. The song has spirit, and a noble feel about it, and I'd like to think of Kaeev being more of a traditional tauren who has spirit and takes pride in his heritage. I feel this song embodies all that.

I think the lyrics say it all. It's classic misunderstood teen, wanting to be taken for a man and for who he is, yet also craving a mentor-type to look up to. It also has some hints of his fighting through depression as he inevitably comes up short and feels brushed under the rug anyway.

Now that's he's more confident and "centered", I'm not so sure. This one might work, speaking more to his spiritual and shaman-y side.

The lyrics reflect him as he's coming into his own, fulfilling the legacy of family (Narnicka, Genevra, and Cyrus). I also find the overall ambiance of it tribal and edging on mystery, reflecting his family's shamanistic background. It's also hopeful and similar to soul music, which is the same contrast Lahkin and his Light magic brings to his family, particularly with his "uncle" Cyrus.
