Lately, I've been asked some questions about RP guild recruitment which I thought could be answered by a guide here on the forums. This was kind of difficult because Pia doesn't really recruit. Most of our members come to us through interacting with us in roleplay or because of our reputation. Pia is, I'm pretty sure, the second oldest continuous running rp guild on the server and therefore has a very rich history and a good reputation. Unfortunately, when you're a new guild you don't have history and reputation to back you up.
So, what are some solid recruiting tactics?
Recruiting for a guild is not really difficult, it mostly takes persistence (but not spamming) and creativity. You can't start your guild today and give up tomorrow because you don't have ten members. It takes a lot of time and work to build a guild.
Have a firm idea of what your guild is. You should be able to sum it up in a couple of sentences. What is the theme of your guild if you decide you want a theme? If you just want a loosely organized group of roelplayers with no particular focus or theme, that's fine also, but be able to sum that up in a few sentences. You have to know who you are before you can explain to someone what you are.
Decide if your guild is going to have a level limit or any other restrictions such as race or class. From there, it's time to start actually recruiting. Here's some DOs and DON'Ts.
DO put a brief description of your guild in the guild finder, as well as in the RP Guild Thread here (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1072437309) and in the RP Macro of DOOM thread (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/4139865934). You may also consider making a new thread about your guild for a more in-depth description people can reference.
DO talk a little bit to other guild leaders about your guild. If they come across someone who doesn't fit theirs, they may recommend them to yours instead.
DO talk about your guild in AllianceOOC. Don't overdo it, and believe me, we'll let you know if you do. However, you may find someone who is looking for a guild there, or is thinking of making an alt who is perfect for your guild
DO spend some time in starting zones if you're accepting new toons. Walk-up RP and ICly helping new toons is a great way to nab some new members.
DO walk-up RP with people anywhere who don't have a guild, you'll never know who might be a perfect fit for you unless you talk to them.
DON'T approach people who are already in a guild about joining yours. You want to show respect for other guilds to promote cooperation. That said, if somebody is in a guild and is unhappy approaches you, don't discount them. Tell them any guild would probably be pleased to have them. Please encourage them to talk to their guild before they leave it. If it's a minor problem that can be worked out, they may be happier with their old guild. In the long run, you are better off having a happy friend in another guild than an unhappy member in yours. If there is no reconciliation, as stated, encourage them to talk to their guild leader before they leave.
DON'T invite people without talking to them first. In RP guilds especially you want quality, not quantity.
Remember to keep at it. You don't want to spam, but you can't give up either.
I hope this helps.
