"Do what is needed, Narnicka..."

Those chilling last words where what the former Lt. Commander Rellic Jericho had told him before that fateful battle in Alterac Valley that left Narnicka's friend dead on the field. At the time, Narnicka hadn't had the time to stop and reflect on who or what he'd lost, but following his rotation off the front... he'd had the time.

The War Room in Stormwind Keep was oddly quiet, devoid of the usual ramblings of the tactical planners around the large tabletop map or the annoyed gossip of nobles who liked to tour the fortress. So much had changed since Narnicka had Lt. Commander Jericho to look to for guidance, and now more than ever, that wisdom was needed. Right about now, as Narnicka was sitting at his desk, the usual forms staring up at him, Jericho would be grinning and lecturing him on how nothing worth having was easy to attain.

"Hm..." Narnicka huffed, standing from his desk and strolling over to the tabletop map and leaning on it out of habit.

"Sir," A voice came from the door. Corporal Dinryn had wandered in at some point during Narnicka's day-dreaming and stood there, seemingly wary to interrupt.

"You're dismissed for now, Corporal. On your way back to the quarters, check out what that racket in Old Town was about. I don't want to be in the paper tomorrow as the regiment leader who let a tauren drop a load on the mailbox without consequence."

Dinryn grinned sloppily at that, saluting before taking a swift, silent leave.

Narnicka returned to his desk, once again picking up his quill to take another shot at a more professional-sounding recruitment poster.

The trials of an up-and-coming group had landed... and hard.

Narnicka was sitting at the desk in the War Room, as he seemed to find himself doing a lot more since forming the First Stormwind Regiment. The room was quiet, unlike the night before where the encounter with Arlston had taken place. Everyone knew that mistakes and overreactions on both sides had been made when Narnicka discovered a concealed individual eavesdropping on an interrogation the First was performing.

He hadn't know who it was, but Narnicka knew two things immediately after he hurled a knife in the intruder's general direction. One, whoever it was had been intentionally hiding in the War Room not twenty yards away from King Varian. Two, this person was now trying to escape upon discovery. He may as well been wearing a sign that said he was up to no good.

The intruder had thrown a dart at Narnicka, likely meant to get some sort of paralytic toxin into him so the masked man could escape, but it bounced off his armor. At that moment, Narnicka recognized that gear. Arlston Cross had to be the one here. Guy was always sneaking around places, and this wouldn't be the first time it got him into trouble. Narnicka had been taunted before to keep professionalism and his personal life apart, and to be as objective as a human being could be. Now was the time to prove he was capable.

A Commander's instinct to preserve the security and integrity of the Keep, its staff and the regiment itself had taken over and he ordered Corporal Gelyne to take in the intruder using whatever means were required.

Now that the dust had settled, Narnicka sat in his chair, counting up what had been lost or damaged in the proccess of this whole fiasco. Ultimately, only a mild paralytic had been injected into Corporal Gelyne, and Narnicka had had a standoff with Kordrion and Erelyn once they brought Cross back to answer for what happened.

A decision had to be made:

On one hand, Narnicka could remain resolute that no wrong had been done by himself or any of the members of his regiment. In truth, the Regiment had been in a supposedly secure room interrogating a violent prisoner during a time that random attacks were popping up everywhere. Lakeshire, Duskwood, even Dalaran had been sites of recent attack on Alliance citizens. Sneaking around a bunch of armed guards in the one place they were supposed to be safe was not the brightest of ideas. But if he did that, he would jeopardize the First's relations with the Terrans. And in a time where allies were hard to find, that was a less-than-appealing option.

On the other hand, he could apologize for how everything went down. Narnicka had immediately authorized what *could* have become deadly action on someone belonging to an allied order. Even Narnicka knew it had been a quick decision that could have been handled better, but to do this would mean selling out his subordinates. They would have to go on about their careers following a Commander who apologized for doing what he felt was needed to keep them and their King safe.

"Damned if I do, damned if I dont," Narnicka thought, breathing out a low sigh. "What to do?"

It seemed the Regiment had finally grown enough that some of the paperwork overflowed from the Lt. Commander Narnicka's desk and into Lt. Ketlan Jancis' hands.

Oh, Light. Give her stab wounds, infectious diseases, bloody noses... those were what she could deal with. Surely there was someone more suited to filling out supply requisition forms than the company healer!

With a sigh, she put pen to paper, setting aside daydreams of open sky. There was nothing like bureaucracy to keep you grounded.

((bump!))

A quick bump for a guild with a lot of potential.

But I have to say, between FSR and the Stormwind City Watch, we have way too many lawful authority figures in Stormwind these days. I may have to start letting Ardam out of the basement at night so he can thin the herd a bit.

You don't know that. I think I'd make a wonderful Emperor of Azeroth.
