It was a late night at the Blue Recluse. A burly Pandaren and a blond man share some fine wine. There is chatter, there is drinking. Two pals trying to relax after a stressful day. The blond is always pouring more wine for this particular Pandaren.
"So Arogus my student" - Said the burly customer.
"Tell me the story we had you pratice earlier today. I want to hear it. I know you said it was mostly silent when you were over stage and it was a tough crowd. But somehow I feel you changed the meaning of it. So child, perform it for me. Here. Now!" - Despite his tone the Pandaren grins as he ends his drink. 'Arogus' promptly pours more wine for his ursine friend.
"Master Bluepawn. If it were anyone else asking me to perform an art I am yet to perfect, I'd refuse! But since you are paying today, I'll treat you the story I like to call 'Bestial Nature'." his eyes shine with excitement as the Pandaren rolls his.
This so called 'Arogus' raises from his chair, makes a bow towards Master Bluepawn and suddenly he is in a trance. A storytelling trance that is.
"Now now...I'll do my best to recall this ancient tale that talks about the nature of beasts." - He starts with a grin.
"First there was the Lion. Big. Fierce. Proud! He roamed through the jungle, revered by all crawls of life. He was as just as he was beastly, sometimes even cruel. Still he brought balance to the jungle." - The burly master nods as if he has heard that story before.
"Then a wandering Scorpion visited the Lion's jungle. Small. Skittish. Cunning! He killed all animals who dared stand on his path of territory." - Arogus tries to simulate a scorpion sting with his index finger with mixed results.
"One day the beasts met. Proud and Cunning meet head to head. They fight. The Lion bites! The Scorpion stings! But there is no winner. No winner at all!" - He clashes his both fists together. This gets a small chuckle out of Master Bluepawn.
"All there is left of the jungle are ruins. Most animals allied either with the Lion or the Scorpion, who were all entangled in fierce competition for eons." - Arogus keeps going, ignoring his master laughter.
"One day, the end of the jungle came. A massive downpour flooded the region.
All there was left was a small parchment of land, with the Lion and Scorpion facing each other.
The Scorpion, cunning as only he can be, wanted to make a deal with the Lion. He said and I quote:" - The blond proceeds to try to make a skittish voice, changing his pitch.
"Lion! Lion! I am your foe, the Mighty Scorpion! But let us make a truce. No killing today! No violence today! Let me reach your back! I know you can swim to the other side of the world, where there is still land, where there is still a jungle! Let me live with you, as a equal." - Master Bluepawn crosses his arms, not amused at the voice making.
The Lion! O the Lion was too noble, too proud to let the Scorpion's cunning unanswered. He said in a loud roar: - Arogus tries yet again to change his pitch, now to a more gruff one.
"Fine! Scorpion, today is the day we bound. Lion and Scorpion no more! There is only the Jungle." - Master Bluepawn nods yet again.
"The Scorpion happily jumped into the Lion's back. And the Lion swimmed through the endless water, looking for a piece of Jungle they could call home."
"But the poor Scorpion couldn't help staring at the unprotected back of his foe. A being so proud. So noble. So conceited. So fierce. So vunerable." - Arogus then quickly slaps his hands together, some other tavern patrons stare at him with pure apathy.
"He stuck the Lion with his sting.
The Lion finally died in his struggle against the Scorpion.
Before the Scorpion could enjoy his win over his ancient foe, he is washed away by the endless sea." - He then proceeds to deeply bow his head towards Master Bluepawn.
"And that is the tale of the Proud Lion and the Cunning Scorpion."
As soon Arogus finishes his piece, he can hear his master laugh.
"Arogus, you fool! You changed the frog of the original story for a Lion!"
Arogus just stood there, wondering if the Master understood what he was trying to convey.
Or maybe there was a bit more about this particular brand of criticism...
