Night Elf: save a tree, wipe your butt with an owl.

Night Elves being cleaner people are likely aware that it is cleaner to wash down there with water then it is with dry rough paper.

-Arrow flies past the worgen's ear-

Owls are as important to the Night Elves as Nightsabers.

Cleaner people, are we?

What happened to that whole "feral" aspect Kaldorei culture is supposed to have, hmmm? ;)

You've seen my pet, right?

Translucent jade owl is PERFECT per for a Kaldorei Huntress. Almost an exact match of the owl you can throw up into a tree from Warcraft III.

Animals are not necessarily dirty, maybe healthy should have been the word to use?

We would likely be aware that it is healthier and more sanitary to not use paper and that water is the better cleaning agent. After all you wash a dish with it, you wash clothing with it ect.. ect... ect...

Also "feral" or naturalistic does not always = Dirty IMHO

Well using perfectly good writing material on your backside isn't the most ecologically friendly use of paper.

...You have been out "Protect and conserve the forest".... by a Highborne.... /swish nothin but net!

Using water to wash up down there is a very dumb idea. It's why humans rarely drank water or bathed in it since the dawn of civilization.

Water is dirty. Extremely dirty. It contains all sorts of parasites and filth from every animal imaginable and it gets even worse when civilized races are involved and wastes will be dumped into the rivers.

This is why our species drank alcohol for most of our civilized existance. The boiling of water killed the harmful bacteria and parasites and the alcohol meant it lasted. Beer was safer to drink than water and I don't see how WoW would be any different. To a lesser extant, its a reason why people hardly bathed unless it was a stream far away from civilizations, clear running water, and even then it wasn't a common thing. You needed to boil the water first in most cases.

And Eldamar rarely bathes except on those rare occasions when he's in the city or just happens to swim across a river or stream.

The more you know.

All that is truly wild is not dirty.

I think I butchered that quote, but the point stands.

Perhaps.

Kaly here, however, actually is.

Of course she's a Huntress and an Outrunner, so it's not exactly surprising that someone who spends much of their life in the vast wilds of Kalimdor's darkest, uncharted places isn't the cleanest Kaldorei around.

The United States is actually one of the few industrialized nations where the bidet isn't all that popular or in wide use. Mostly because many Americans associate it with France and God forbid we be like those dam French people right?

Also the problem only arises when that civilized race is incredibly ignorant of how to manage their water resources. For example the Roma (Also known as Gypsies) have an ethnic custom that goes to the effect of always drink water from further upstream then where you bathe and never from a stagnant pool. Simple as that and behold they are still around and very numerous. These are by the way semi-nomadic people. Literally people who have no established settlements for much of their history seem at least crudely aware that water can become dirty.

Also you speak mostly of the Middle Ages, plenty of civilizations bathed (The Romans for example and the Greeks) bathed frequently. Probably because they had heated bath houses where as a peasant in the 1300's had a cold stream. Also as for beer drinking, that is primarily why Northern Europeans drank beer. As they lacked any knowledge of sanitation or sewer systems or what microbes were. Also they had a tendency to not do as the Roma do but instead drink from the same places they emptied the chamber pots.

Also consider that in the Middle East, North Africa and elsewhere Alcohol was forbidden completely (As per dictates of Islam since the year 600 or there abouts) at the exact same time that the Europeans were chugging booze instead of water. Yet at that time period we could argue the dry sober culture was probably far more sophisticated and well off then it's European counterpart. So actually this idea of not drinking much water since the dawn of civilization is a bit misleading.

As for washing with water as opposed to paper, The Romans used a sponge on a stick, and they were pretty much the pinnacle of European civilization until modern times. How about that for a fair compromise?

This makes me want to faction change Vel here. I've read a lot of the WoW books and love learning lore. Horde side is getting boring to me and I would love to RP a Night Elf the way the should be played.

The Moonblade is currently in need of an active priestess. Just throwing that out there.

Actually, I've only seen it in France (not really often though) and high class hotels. But the normal people in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, and the Czech Republic don't really use it. Mainly because people don't have that much space in their bathrooms. Personally I'd say the bidet isn't really popular anywhere. It's some hype the Frogs (sue me, I've been reading too much Hornblower lately) came up with. If you can't win wars or invent useful things (like, uh, airplanes, cars, microwave ovens, karaoke and stuff) then you have to come up with wine, food and the bidet.

I've only used one once during a trip to Europe, not sure how popular they really are. I know the couple that owned it liked and I felt weird using it.

Also, they have won plenty of wars.... just not a whole lot recently. You'd be speaking Arabic right now if they hadn't of won a fairly important one way back when.

Reason for this was that drinking alcohol in a desert is a stupid thing to do. It dehydrates you even faster. More sophisticated... no, not really. Not when you look at the actual history of these areas. They butchered each other just like the Europeans did it. And most (if not all) of their sophistication (is that a word?) was copied or stolen from other cultures (Rome, Greece, India, Sassanid Empire, etc.)

Well I look at Spain under Moorish rule and then under Spanish European rule and compare the two. Also I don't consider sophistication in who was more peaceful, nobody can win that debate. Which by and by was not my point at all.

And at this point it would be a whole different topic.

Getting back on topic, using water to wash yourself?.... Perhaps if the society knows nothing of water or resources it could be a problem. I think Night Elves are a bit more up on the knowledge sector and might just be aware of it.
