Ascalon (Hardcore Rp Guild) [Alliance]

Salutations! At the time of this thread being posted the year has just started and with that comes the ending as well as the beginning of new projects. Well, it just so happens that at this time (after months of preparations) I am finally ready to recruit for my guild. What a wonderful way to start the new year!

The Guild Master

If I had to describe me using three words they would be humanitarian, idealistic, and spiritual. On an ooc level I am a huge advocate of the idea that a day will come when all of humanity is united and can work much better together. It is my belief that instead of waiting to die to go to heaven, humanity will learn to create it. I am extremely passionate about making the world a better place and chasing your dreams. This is backed up by me being a huge optimist, who doesn't appreciate people telling me how much “the world is never going to change.” There are two types of people in this world “Those who are Amazing, and those who are Amazed. Those who are Inspiring and those who are Inspired.” - Sully Breaks. That being said I am an extremely patient individual who has a huge interest in philosophy, debating, learning, and video gaming – among other things.

I don't like to boast, which is why I think I'm terrible at resumes. How can I say I am a great leader? I haven't lead everyone in the world to know if my way of leadership works on enough people to say I'm a great leader. How can I boast being great at pvp? Maybe all the people I've beaten were terrible. I am probably the one thing I couldn't sell. Be that as it may, I will try my best. Know that what I say next I say with the utmost humility possible.

I've had the honor of leading this guild for the last five years, while its “golden age” has long since passed and real life prevented it from ever truly returning to its former glory. The guild has remained alive in various incarnations over the last five years and has kept a solid community of at least ten people at all times. I've also kept in touch with many of my former guild members and remain on good terms with a majority of them. On that note, I think that stands as some form of record that says I'm doing something right.

As a person and leader I like to communicate very clearly. This applies to everything I do, be it explaining my ideals, sharing my ideas, or discussing a plan. I value and expect the same thing from all my guild members. Granted, I understand that some people are terrible at communicating clearly, but I am confident that my patience and brain are up to the task of understanding anything if explained to me. I don't get easily irritated so you have plenty of time when talking to me to get me on the same page. I am huge on integrity, be honest with me and be honest with yourself.

Beyond that I have what I consider advanced people skills. I am very capable of putting myself in other peoples shoes and not just seeing or understanding where they're coming from, but feeling it to. I'm really good at thinking big and on a grand scale, and then from there working my way down to a quantum level. I am very open-minded, and will always listen to other people's ideas. However, when I have a certain vision and you hop on board with that vision and I say “Hey, this is what I am going for.” Whatever idea you pitch me should some how achieve the over all goal, and you should be able to explain how it connects to the main goal. Don't expect me to implement your idea if it steers away from the vision. At that point it is taking me down a path I do not want to go. That's just a little bit about me, it went on longer than I wanted it to, but I talk a lot so – yeah.

The Guild

The guild was created to mirror my own ideals both in its purpose from a role-playing and out of character standpoint. The people I like to recruit into my guild are people who have an interest in making the world a better place and leaving it a bit brighter. This is because these same people tend to want to do the same for the role-playing community. I have always sought to provide the best example I can and be a model role-player that hopefully inspires younger role-players. All who join the guild are expected to have the same desire. The guild rules are designed to remind us of our duty as role-players. In my mind I have always seen my guild as champions of bringing quality role-play to wherever we are present.

In terms of role-playing, the guild primary focus revolves around humans. Who would of thought a guild lead by a humanitarian would be themed around humans? The premise of the guild is quite simple. My character one day stopped and surveyed his surroundings and was heart broken by what he saw. Humanity, that had fought to earn its right to exist had lost so much of what it worked so hard to obtain. The Seven Human kingdoms were shadows of their former selves and the Alliance had relied on humanity's sheer numbers so much so that we had lost the man power to secure our own lands from forces that our people didn't provoke. Humanity had spent much of its resources cleaning up the mess of things they were not responsible for. My character simply could not see the fairness or justness in this. He vowed to build a force that would be devoted toward advancing humanity and following in the footsteps of it's creators – the titans. Bringing order, justice, and peace wherever they went. Thus Ascalon was founded. Beyond that there is a huge layer of depth to that theme that has allowed us to tap into every area of role-play. Political, Martial, Magical, Religious (In game religion), you name it we can or have done it. This was done on purpose, as I wanted a theme broad enough where the race restriction wouldn't hamper the guilds growth too much. By having a theme like this, while it cuts out other races joining the guild it does allow us to have access to just about every kind of role-play a human could do.

What I'm Looking For

Every great movement begins with an idea, and that movement is carried out by soldiers willing to march to that idea, who believe in that idea. With that being said, after very careful consideration I have decided that based on the guild's finances and what would be best for the guild. Building our martial force is the first thing I would like to do. In short, we're looking for soldiers. In specific humans who play the warrior class. Other classes, don't you suck your teeth, don't you dare suck your teeth. You have a place in the guild but we're not recruiting for it at the moment and won't be for some time because we have a certain blueprint we're trying to follow and keep organized. Quality is something I plan to have at the guilds very foundations, and hopefully if I'm even remotely close to a good leader, I'll be able to keep that quality no matter how big we might become.

What I'm looking for in already experienced role-players:

Clear Writing Skills - Now some of you might be thinking, “what?”What kind of requirement is that? Well, its a very reasonable requirement for a heavy role-playing guild. Not only that but, you will see combat in the form of turn based emote fighting, rolls, and other methods. Being able to write clearly and explain yourself so other people can understand you is important. You don't need to be an English major or know big words, people just need to be able to understand your emotes. If you try to pull some insane triple flip with some physic defying round house kick and a side step, even if that was all physically possible for your character to do in a single emote, if I can't understand it or if its not clear – as far as I am concerned you never posted. Every time you emote fight you're representing our guild and the efficiency of its military. This isn't real life so our military isn't judged by how physically strong you say your character is, because in a game we can just all make our characters super strong. No, a role-play military is based on the writers behind the character. Good writers = a strong imaginary military.

Patience and Cool Headed– This is a big one. I can't claim that Ascalon will have the finest soldiers Azeroth has ever seen if you're unable to keep a cool head and be patient. Easily pissed off people, people who have to have their way, and pushy people need not bother reading any further. These kind of people are just not suited for the kind of image I want the guilds soldiers to portray. You need to be considerate and patient toward your opponent and give them time to post.

Polite – Politeness is essential for things to go smooth. Treat your opponent with respect no matter who they are or what they've done. They're behavior should not cause you to turn around and act the same way.

Active- When I say active, I don't mean online every day. Though, I don't expect you to be a ghost either. What I mean by active is that when you're online or if you have access to the internet and you are not busy with anything else you should be doing your duty to the guild. Checking the guild website, and supporting guild threads on the wow forums. Just like any hardcore raiding or pvping guild that has standards, so does a hardcore role-play guild have its standards.

Talents – Some people are going to be really put off by this, but hey I want my guild a certain way. Everyone has skills and talents, let them be known. If you're good at something in real life and you think it could help the guild, speak up. If you're not sure, speak up anyway. Chances are your talent can be utilized to some degree. Treat this as if you were applying for a job, sell yourself. Artists are in high demand and always sought after. People who can theory-craft is another big trait sought after for officership. People who are capable of understanding the guild's goals inside and out and can theorize new goals for the guild to pursue or create role-play.

New Role-Players/transitioning role-players

Open-minded – For those new role-players or light/medium role-players looking to get into hardcore role-playing you need to have an open-mind and understand that this environment is much different from what you might be used to. It might be wise to consider a lighter guild first. However, if you think you're up to the challenge and you want a quality education in role-play etiquette in regards to combat role-play, class role-play, profession role-play, lore, and more. Then this is the guild for you. Join and you can rest assured that wherever you role-play you will be a welcomed addition to any role-play scenario.

Willingness to learn – You're not being taught by people who don't know what they're doing. We're trying to help you get the most fun out of role-play while teaching you rules that everyone should adhere to. Be willing to learn from us and take our knowledge, we want to give it to you.

Communication – Be clear on what you want and what you're ideas for your character are. We have Lore-masters in the guild that will let you know what is and isn't possible. Its not us you have to compromise with, its lore.

At any rate, there you have it. I could say so much more, but I'm not sure if I want to make this any longer. I'm sure I didn't cover everything, so if you have any questions please post a response and I'll answer it as clearly as I can.

I like it!

Much appreciated good priest. My character will not soon forget you being so understanding at the council event you hosted a couple days ago. You honored his request and allowed him to keep his hood on. Small acts like those can make you great friends.

A few years ago I met Xaligos when I first started rping. I had little idea of what I was doing, but he took me into the guild anyway. Over time I watched and learned from other rping in the guild, learning from other's mistakes and achievements. Me and Xal became good friends over time, and as a product of our friendship I have become very refined in both rp and lore. As for the guild I have noticed that nothing can keep it down over the years, and it always bounces back stronger. The true aim of the guild is to bring rp back to it's golden age as well as bring people together, and I can personally vouch for both the guild and the determined leader spearheading the project.

Thank you Thrassian. It has been fun working with you all this time. You've given me some difficulties, but all in all you're a good person and your passion and devotion have always been traits I have greatly respected. You question and challenge and pushed me to be a better leader, so thank you for your kind words and for being you.

Good writers = a strong imaginary military.

And Strongius Bufficussus raises his muscled, tanned, hairy, skin-covered, clothes-covered, plate-covered arm with one scar on it for any who were to peruse the contours of his muscled, tanned, hairy, skin-covered, clothes-covered, plate-covered brachii, his luminous emerald-purple-green-red-blue orbs radiating pure intent as he lowered his arm slightly, now held at an angle equal to that of a giraffe's neck, his large, heavy, holy-appearing holy hammer in hand as he lowered his arm further, now equal to an angle of a military salute, the shining hammer falling through the air, which smelled of sweat, blood, and fury, the suspense rising as the arm fell to a nearly forty-five degree angle (assuming his line of sight's central axis represents the arm of the half-right-angle) as his cry began to pierce the ear, a throaty warbling of pure restrained hatred, as his arm falls even further, now almost a foot away from the target--his cry grows louder, his eyes more focused, the luminous orbs provided to him long ago by the grand sage Exalius Magius Kappaius, when he fought in the war against the Space Troggs of Mongoloid Prime, in a grand ceremony representing his leadership, both of the shining spheres of holy energy focused on his target--a malleable piece of molten metal, to be hammered into a shining butterknife for the serving of food and distribution of delicious calories among the company.

Thank you very much Vaile. It has been an absolute pleasure to have role-played with you and Rizangu for so long. I am glad that I approached you all those months ago in the Cathedral District. Who would of thought it would lead to meeting two of the greatest role-players I have had the honor and privilege of interacting with. You guys are in my thoughts often and I'm proud as well as thankful to call you both friends.

Thank you Draigo. With your help and the others who have joined on board I am confident that we can make a positive difference on the Server and add to it in a significant way. Emote fighting with you was a blast and was the best experience I have had in a very long time doing so. You were fair, realistic, and for the story. I'm glad our characters fought, because with you in our military I am confident there is someone there to help me uphold the standards for the guild's troops.

Thank you both for your kind words and the support.

Your loyal friend,

Xali the Pally
