The woman walked quietly down the blue carpet of the cathedral to the book that had been pointed out to her the other day. She took iot from its pedistal, and looked through it. Several others had written of their pilgramage in here.

She took a pen and sat down and began to write..

I did as Rage suggested and went to Moonbrooke, to bring a close to my old life....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

She walked through the delapidated streets. Looking at all the beggars who had invaded Westfall seince the cataclysm. She gave money to some, food to others, bolts of cloth or leather. Shoes and other things handed out to these wreatched people. They all ran off to hide with their new found "wealth." Wynia shook her head and looked at the shed that held the entrance to the dead mines.

While she had thought that the brotherhoods cause was right at first she came to understand that they had turned into nothing more then thugs, preying on the same people she had just helped. They needed to be shut down, if not permanatly then at least for a good long time.

She walked the mine, giving coins out to the poor, asking them to leave the mine itself. Telling them it was to dangerous. She gave them enough to settle in Dark shire or Redrige. It cost her almost everything she had, but she did not want the innocent to suffer what was coming. She had enough guilt as it was.

She set her pack on the ground and looked inside. The small gnomish devices she had bought blinked and ticked. She went about attaching them to the supports of the mine. After that was done she went into the back of the mines, where all the criminals were. She watched them laugh and joke about the slave labor used to make their ships, and the mines themself.

A well placed arrow or two between the eyes of certain thugs let her pass through the mines. Another got her the key to the slave pen. Sneaking out so many was tough, but was accomplished with a few close calls. She told them to run for their very lives. If they were in the mine in fifteen minutes they would be dead, then turned back to the dark passages.

Making her way through the caves she came to the ship. She looked at it for several moments. It had once represented justice itself, a cry against a corrupt nobility, now it was nothing but a pirate vessel, sowing misery in its wake. She was soon up the side of the ship and into the hold. A snake trap and some rather dead over curious guards later she stood over one of the sergants of the Defias as he slept.

While Tom and Echo had killed her actuall owner this man had done things to her and other slaves that would give her nightmares for the rest of her life. Slamming the hilt of her dagger into his head she trussed up up like a chicken and made her way from the ship. Knowing that the other pirates would not miss him for several hours and then it would be to late.

She carried him through the mines. The other Defias busy trying to find out what happened to their slaves. At last she came to the shed, the moonlight floating in from the doorway. She tied the man to a post in the middle of the room and set one of the gnomish devices at his feet. She then crouched and waited, when he blinked his eyes and started to look around she spoke quietly.

"Crelvan. I would be most quiet if I were you, the item at your feet is most sensative to vibrations."

The mans eyes widened as he looked down.

"What is that? What are you doing?"

Wynia tilted her head.

"I thought it fairly obvious, did you know there are bounties on all of you, dead or alive? Do you notice the convienant lack of innocents around?"

The man began to sweat.

"Look girl, I know I was bad to you. I can give you money, or your own slaves. You could be a kingpin for the brotherhood, rich beyond your wildest dreams. Forgive me! I can..."

Wynia had held up a hand.

"My dear, dear friend. Of course I forgive you. There is however a debt between us. Forgive, but do not forget. Pain for pain. Life for life, how many have you taken?"

She stood up and lifted the hood of her dark cloak and moving towards the door. The man struggling wildly against his bonds.

"This isn't you. You were always hugging those animals, waisting love on critters. Some one had to toughen you up. What are you now girl! What are you now."

As she walked away from the shed, a small thing in her left hand, a simple tube with a button on it. The last of the items the gnome had sold her to complete the set. The mans words echoing through her mind as she heard the first faint sounds of crying from the shed as the man finally gave up knowing he would not get loose.

What are you?! What are you?!

She paused a moment. Her breath steamig from under the hood as she looked at the device in her hand. Several moments passed and her face set, though no one in the dark could see it and she began to walk away. Suddenly the night around Moonbrooke lit up like day. The sudden light throwing her shadow before her. A single comment, lost in the inferno blast and heat.

"I am what you made me."

Rage was right, she wrote into the book. My past is behind me. My spirit is free. Those who hurt me and so many others have payed for their crimes. The gold for the bounties on those people will be donated to the orphens home in the cathedral square. Light have mercy on their souls.

The paladin made a soft smile as she finished reading the entry. She closed the book, and sat back in the chair, deep in thought. A rotting paw gently touched her leg. She gently pats the rotting puppy on its head while it pants happily.

"She sure is a surprising one, Precious."

Precious barks, as if agreeing with the paladin. The paladin stands to her hooves, and turns to return to her quarters. She pulls down a small chest from one of the shelves, and takes a few items from it; a piece of paper, a quill, and a vial of ink. She sits at the small desk present there, and begins writing a letter.

"My dear Lady Sepha,
I am sure you are aware of the stable hand, Wynia, present among the Holy Order. This woman has shown tremendous courage in facing her past, as well as sharing of this tale among others who have written in the Trial of Testimony archives. I whole heartily believe she has great promise for not only herself but to the Pia Presidium. Miss Wynia would make a fine Knight among us. I would like to request, on her behalf, that she be allowed to read about our history, and take the oath.

May the Naaru guide us all,
Jataa Lightsworn."

With a smile, she folds the letter neatly and seals in shut. She holds out the letter, as Precious carefully takes it in her jaws.

"Take that straight to Lady Gentyl, Precious, then come right back, with or without a response please."

Precious, turns and dashes out of the Cathedral, following the scent to her destination.

Gentyl looked up from the marble slab where she had been tooling a new head stall. The leather was damp and cool against her hand. She inhaled deeply, drawing in the scent of fresh leather. There was another scent nearby, Precious, Jataa's undead pup. The dog trotted through the door with a scroll case in her mouth, happily drooling green ichor behind her.

"Got something for me?"

Precious dropped the scroll and barked expectantly. Gentyl hadn't been fishing yet, but she had some dried fish in her fishing bag and pulled one out for the pup who snapped it out of the air. "Wait a minute and I'll send a reply."

Gentyl read the note. She couldn't agree more. Wynia had taken excellent care of the mounts and had even resisted giving Traveller more cherry grog that he was allowed. The woman had come from a rough background, but she had proven herself and certainly deserved a chance. People like her often made the best knights.

She slid a piece of paper she'd scribbled some measurements on earlier and jotted out a brief message.

Jataa,

Agreed. Let's get together and get to work on this.

Sepha.

She rolled the message back in the case and gave it back to Precious. "Take that back to Jataa."

((Wynia, very nicely done. I love it when people write their stories. It adds a special depth to the character. Thank you so much for writing this and posting it. I look forward to adding to your story.))
