Working the controls on her collapsable panel, watching the monitor, she circled the mechanical serpent around to land beside her. PIMS came to a rest, pulling it's limbs in close and collapsing the joint articulation around its neck and tail, essentially collapsing itself into a more portable form as the gnome powered down its systems. She admired the machine as she powered down her monitor and collapsed her control station.
Gathering the items together she crept to the ledge and peeked over to watch the two snipers and mage on the rooftop below her. She watched as the mage below, Flagg, pulled the small gnomish device from his own pack and activated with the loadstone. He opened the portal and Jayne was the first to step through, crossbow at the ready. Vë followed next with her custom rifle cradled in her arms. Flagg followed, pausing only for a moment to report, "Dragon-hawk 3. We're clear."
Tink responded. "See you on the other side." With that Flagg stepped through the portal. Tink watched, curious if in fact the small portal device would function as designed. The portal swiftly closed behind the mage. The moment it did the loadstone overcharged itself. She watched as tiny arcs of electricity danced across its surface. The device quickly fell apart. The loadstone now looking like nothing more than a lump of black fragile coal, destined to break apart should it be further disturbed.
Functioned just as intended. Tink smiled to herself. Nixim and Nella were indeed genius engineers. She hoped that the other two devices, one atop the mansion and the other within, functioned just as well. The meltdown had been her idea, concerned that they would be leaving behind evidence. This way she was certain that none of it would ever trace back to them. At least, nearly certain.
She pulled her own small device from her pack, activated it, placed the loadstone, and summoned the portal. As she stepped through to her destination, the forests near Thelsamar, she had a passing thought. I hope the meltdown of my device doesn't set this floating topiary on fire. She paused for a moment on the other side to consider the possibility. Nah. Too green.
The portal quickly closed behind her. The device self-destructed as planned, singing a few of the leaves around it.
