First off, I love the new expansion. So much great stuff!
I love my garrison. The stables are fantastic. I love mining ore without dismounting :D.
My new Trained Snarler mount is great. Cail looks great charging across Nagrand on its back!
I was really looking forward to using the Rocktusk mount (I just picked up today). Afterall, there are plenty of animations found throughout WoW of boars running at full gait. Often times when such animations are sped up they don't look quite right. I was never really a fan of the worg mounts because of this. The bobbing and swaying was at best, annoying. At worse it made me dizzy and sea sick. So coming back to the boar gait, I was curious to see how this translated.
Imagine my dismay when my new awesome looking mount shuffled instead.
One thing I always look forward to with each new expansion (from a game design / animation standpoint) is seeing how Blizzard reused older models and rigging. I love it! I think its great. Like a little (unintended i'm sure) easter egg! :D Like when they recycled the worgen model and rigging to create the Saurok or how the Mogu are basically redesigned Draenei in MoP. They usually do such a great job (imo) that if I'm not actively searching for the comparisons then I generally don't see it. Theses two characters for example stand extremely well on their own.
So its hard for me to understand this. What happened with the Rocktusk?
It has the same animations (and I'd assume basic rigging) as the Trained Riverwallow mount I picked up yesterday. A well designed hippo mount to be sure, but it honestly fell flat for me due to its lack of a running animation. I was also hoping for some sort of mounted swimming boost...but that's beside my point.
In the end, it's a hippo. They're really big lumbering beasts that don't exactly have a running gait like say a horse, a dog, or a boar. So not a big deal. I still love it for what it is. I won't really use it, ever, I don't think... but its still super neat.
So why then does the Rocktusk mirror the hippo?
Right down to its almost playful challenge where it spreads its forelegs, dips its head, and slaps its tail on the ground... which makes sense on the hippo but looks just wrong on the Rocktusk given its short tail. It looks like its humping air. Its a horny boar. A horny boar that clearly has some advanced form of arthritis since it can only really shuffle instead of run.
Why did you give me a horny arthritic pig for a mount, Blizzard?
Silliness aside, I hope you can see my very serious disappointment. Of all the pigs running through places such as Razorfen Downs, one of which is a boss, why did they choose to mirror a hippo?
