Jaszmin sat in a remote corner of the Blue Recluse, her deft fingers working the final touches on the carving she was making as a gift for a mage she hoped would appreciate her humble art.Her thoughts drifted as they usually did and the memory of her lost love unfolded in excruciating detail.
His soft dark fur luxurious under her hand as his deep rumbling purr soothed her soul. His rough cat tongue washed her hand with deep affection. His golden cat's eyes gazing into hers as he lay across her lap. Even his name rolled easily off her tongue, Antonius.
Tears rolled down Jazz's cheeks as the sweetness of the memory only served to remind her of her loss. With a start and slightly embarrassed look around she relaxed as she noted no one had noticed her in the dark corner. The bundle tightly wrapped and tied with impossible knots lay in her pack at the bottom, but she could feel it's eerie stare even through the wrappings. It was the skull of the troll shaman.
Tol'Dar Djin was the most evil of the Ragespear tribe, using his dark magic to capture and torture Night elf children.
It had taken Jazzy and Antonius 5 years to track down the shaman, and the fight had been brutal.
The dancing flames of the shaman's fire danced with spirits of those he had tortured. At one point Antonius had leapt over the fire to latch onto the shaman's back as Jazzy struggled beneath him. In a desparate move the words of Tol'Dar had grated in her ears as he growled his curse.
In a flash of purple flame and the smell of insense Jazzy was caught in the troll's power. Her poisoned blades flashed as they caught the light of the dancing flames. With no control over her mind, her hand drove the blade deep into Antonius shoulder. His cry of agony echoed in her ears, breaking the voodoo spell on her.
Jazzy leapt high into the air as the shaman turned to her, his cackles cut short as she launched her dagger. The poison on the dagger was the deadliest she had and the blade caught him in the throat before he could utter another curse.
Even as he struggled to pull the blade out the poison did it's job and he slumped to the ground.
With a cry of anguish Jazzy turned to Antonius and desparately sought to control the bleeding on his shoulder.
His eyes sought hers and his dying words etched into her mind...."I am glad you put an end to him, my life is a willing sacrifice. I love you and my spirit will watch over you.." As he breathed his last, Jazzy gathered him into her arms and sobbed into the dark fur.
The blood of the evil shaman edged towards the bonfire. As it touched the flames a keening wail filled the woods. Jazzy looked up in horror as the spirit of Tol'Dar danced over the fire and directed it's vile curse at her.
"You will carry my skull with you forever and no one shall take it from you, it will eat away at your soul until there is nothing left.."
With trembling hands Jazzy grasped the mug of mead and brought it to her lips. The cool liquid did nothing to relieve the dryness or the lump in her throat. She was glad there was no one in the upper floor of the Recluse to see her pain
