"We need to do some public service events," Gentyl said. She was sitting under her favorite tree, fishing and drinking cherry grog when she said it. Some of the Guards were fishing or sprawled out in the grass relaxing. Iecia was arranging her toes in alphabetical order.

"What kind of public service?" Ulthryn asked.

"Something to help youngsters. We have several squires who need to earn promotions and public service has always been the preferred step to promotion."

Genytl reeled in a fish and put it on the line, then lowered the line back into the water. Traveler raised his muzzle out of the cherry grog keg at the sound of the splashing. His gray head was now stained a glaring red from submersing it in the grog and blowing bubbles. Gentyl reached her mug over and dipped out more before the horse decided to bury his head in the grog again.

"We should fix sammiches," Iecia said.

"I love picnics," Catrella sighed.

All of the women agreed while the men tried to ignore it and hope the subject would soon pass.

"We should have a box social," Gentyl said. "We used to have those at the abbey to raise funds for rebuilding projects. We can combine the best of both things, raising money to buy things for youngsters and picnics."

Cray was the first one to break the silence from the men. "What is a box social, Sepha?"

"It's where the women fix up a nice picnic lunch, decorate the box and the auctioneer sells it. Whoever buys the lunch gets to have a picnic with the woman who made it."

The women all clapped and immediately started buzzing about what to fix. Finn groaned and slipped away from the crowd.

"Stop!" Gentyl said before the rest of the men disappeared. "This is for a good cause. Buck up and participate."

"Can I just donate some things?" Baridin asked.

"Yes, donate your fine dwarven body to the box social and bid on a lunch."

"Will you be cooking, Sepha?" Taelanas asked with some misgiving.

"Probably. It's for a good cause."

"As you wish. I will increase our insurance in case someone sues us."

((So, here is how I think it will work. Ladies will prepare or buy enough food for two people. They will then mail a letter describing what the box looks like. The auctioneer will describe the box he is holding up and the bidding will commence. If the ladies wish a certain gentleman to bid on her picnic, she would most likely tell him ahead of time what it looks like. The ladies will hold their food and when their "box" is auctioned off then they will step forward and take their winning bidder to picnic.

Since this is a fund raiser, be a good sport if someone you don't know gets your picnic and have a pleasant lunch.

It will be something different to do and give people a chance to meet new people and possibly lead to some interesting rp.

Alliance side will be at 4:00 pm realm time. I don't know the location yet and if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I won't be available in game to check out the locations.

We also need an auctioneer and we will need people with portable mail boxes so the auctioneer can retrieve last minute picnics.

The horde side box social will take place at 6:00 pm server and will be hosted by Homeland.

Feel free to post suggestions, intentions to attend and comments.))

Miss D'Amond:

A box social, good heavens! Why, I remember watching more than one with a tiny, fluttering heart when I was just a girl in Old Gnomregan.

How I longed to be taken for a quiet picnic, strolling sweetly through the maintenance tunnels and gazing out over the great, belching steam vents that dumped our unstable power core's heat into the pristine wilderness of Dun Morogh! It was an innocent time to be a young woman.

I never went on any dates, of course. I was too busy studying.

But enough of the past! I am, as you may well know, quite single and, by some definitions, still quite eligible as well, having a rather modest personal fortune and a substantially more massive corporate one. To say nothing of all the letters after my name!

Will your auctioneer be able to handle an auction in absentia? I'm afraid I'm already quite booked for this Sunday with AAMS business. However, I'm more than happy to send a lunch that day (by special AAMS courier, of course), perhaps along with a little note introducing myself?

However you think best. I wish I could be there to see all the hopeful young faces! Such a pity. Do you think the new steam vents are as romantic as the old ones for picnicking? And why do we spell "picnicking" with a "k" when there isn't one in "picnic"?

Such a wonderful, mysterious world we live in.

Yours in Service,

Abelda,

Thank you for offering. Someone suggested we use AAMS since they are used to large deliveries and can work on both sides for Alliance and Horde socials. I would love for you to submit a picnic for the auction.

Aeldgyth,

I'm sad you won't be there, but yes, please feel free to submit one. Also, as stated in another message, AAMS might be perfect for auctioning the lunches since they are used to having large deliveries and therefore might have a lot of available space to carry the lunches and descriptions.

I'd like to hire a courier for both Alliance and Horde side picnics.

Due to my late return and inability to wrap up details, I'm going to change the date of the Box Social to next Saturday. Aug. 20. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Please note the time changes. 4 pm for alliance and 6 pm for horde. Also note the change in procedures. I think Verogoth is handling the auction alliance side, but let me verify. Ladies will mail letters only describing their picnic boxes. They will keep their food to share.

Unfortunately, a last-minute mandatory meeting has been called for ALL DAY tomorrow that I have to be at, so I will not be able to personally handle the auction. However, I have "Plan B" set in motion and it looks like I will have a very qualified replacement for you. I am not positive what is happening Horde-side at the moment, but I will check if we have an auctioneer for you there. I will let you know later this evening and get my replacement in touch with you as well.

Rhawboe will be the auctioneer. Please mail your letters to him in time for him to get them before the social.

Yeah, ladies, send those wonderful descriptions to me, and hope I didn't forget my explosives in the mail box again.

((I'll do an ic write up soon, but I wanted to thank everyone that participated. The social raised nearly 10,000 gold which will be set aside to help newcomers to the server, youngsters starting out and roleplay events. IC the funds go to building a new orphanage.

The horde box social was moved to next weekend.))
