Are there any N.O.O.B.S. (aka the new order of brilliant strategy) members still around? I remember that raid pretty well and had a ball until Mirkanesh swooped in and convinced most of the raid to reroll on another server. I remember I was in Far Travellers while in the raid and sevral other guilds contributed raiders. Also there was a shaman that spoke exclusively in character no matter what had to be said with his troll accent spot on, haha. Feel free to contribute any memories you may have of that raid; if there are any of you old school vanilla players still around.
A Vanilla Remembrance (N.O.O.B.S.)
Hey there. Who were you, Ghillie?
There's still a few folks around scattered here and there. I know a few myself since there were a few current and former members of Ishnu Por Ah who were a part of NOOBS-Getharn, Qoz, Avaryne and Neris are some of the NOOBS IPAers who just aren't around here anymore. We also ended up absorbing a few of the folks who were part of Horntotem Tribe, who also contributed to NOOBS, when it dissolved. Most folks have gone their merry way, of course. But I still play regularly with people like Jindall, Merimu and Xenarr, to name a few.
I only raided with NOOBS a few times towards the end. In fact, my first raid with them was one of their early BWL runs trying to down Razorgore. They were running short of folks (a sign of their impending doom) when they asked nubbie me in my teir 0.5 blues to come along. It wasn't really a surprise thing to be asked as I knew so many of them through friendly association and RP and I had started to let it be known that I was looking to raid if anyone would have me. But I remember being freaked out because I'd never raided before, was so undergeared and despite so many of them being friends, was totally intimidated by them all. XD But it was tons of fun. And who needs gear when you're running circles around a room kiting blackrock orcs trying not to get hit, heh. Plus there were people like Aroh (the troll shaman you're thinking of, the shaman lead) who made me feel very welcome. I idolized that guy. His demeanor and attitude towards the raid and raiders was an inspiration, one which I've used leading my own guild raids over the years.
I didn't stay on long with them. After a few raids, I decided to dedicate myself to Bloodforged raids instead. Had a few guildies who were starting up with them and they were a newer group who hadn't really seen the content of Molten Core yet. NOOBS was long in the tooth by then. And even though I was friendly with so many, I didn't feel as comfortable as I thought I would be because I felt like I was being carried. The idea of working on the content with a newer group, learning and wiping with them, was much more appealing. And, frankly, I could feel there was tension among NOOBS and didn't want to be a part of it as well as got a bit of harsh treatment from one member because of my noobishness. I didn't tell Mirkanesh that though when I told him I'd rather be with Bloodforged. Majority of them were all good peeps to me and I wasn't going to hurt my relationship with any of them because of one or two little things.
My favorite memory of NOOBS actually had nothing to do with raid content, sort of. It was the day they all gathered folks to attack Darnassus after Chief Cairne was first killed by H&E. They took anyone willing to go, and I went on my level 20something warrior because it made more IC sense for her to participate than Red. :D Was one of the most fun RP/PvP events on the server.

Hi Redeath. In those days I was an orc shaman named Soresh. I remember that rp event as well and if I remember correctly we ended up killing the faction leader there. It isn't easy to keep a confederation of different guilds going the way NOOBS did but it was nice because it offered an opportunity to raid for those that weren't in Kaos Knights or Dreadforge Pact. Speaking of DFP I'd like to have a chat with Kaiza again, that dude was a character. Aroh, yea he was awesome. If I remember correctly he wasn't even guilded. He was soo hardcore with his rp that he probably didn't want all the ooc contact common in guilds. I'm kind of glad wow took a step back towards vanilla level raiding difficulty, it became such a joke in wrath.
Oh, hey there. Yeah, I remember the name. :)
Yeah, it was necessary back then to get a 40 man together to pool the guilds unless you were super hard core. It probably made for some tricky negotiations from time to time though to keep everyone together and unified from time to time. You know, piss off one guildie and him and all his guildies walk, that sort of thing. Which did happen quite a few times with such groups. Or folks just not being loyal enough to dedicate themselves fully to the raid. Though I think that was less of a problem in Vanilla then in the later raids. When we attempted 25 mans in BC, it was hard to keep a full roster with a mix of guilds. Pretty much learned from it and decided we'd just not do 25 mans anymore. I for one got tired of herding that many cats, heh. And I've enjoyed just our little 10 man group of mostly guildies now for years. Far less stressful and a great challenge for us considering our casual nature and our not getting overgeared for it because we don't do 25 mans at all.
There are things I do miss about Vanilla raiding, but I'd never go back. 10 mans are a great fit for me and my friends and I feel closer to these guys then I ever did in a 40 man. Of course, having known some of them now for years might also have something to do with that. Also, 10 mans lets me enjoy the other parts of my game more like RP since I don't have to raid 3-4 days a week and spend the rest of the week farming for buffs, heh.
Actually, we didn't kill Staghelm. That's who we went after.
One of the biggest things I miss about those Vanilla days is how I knew more people outside of my own guild. Most of the people I associate with now are my guildies/ex-guildies. Back then, guild limits and loyalties didn't prevent people from getting together as much as it does now. I'm not a social butterfly really, but back then there seemed to be much more of a connectiveness between everyone that just doesn't exist in today's game. Of course, maybe I'm just being an old, anti-social curmudgeon. XD Lots of things have changed since then. So not surprising really knowing what those changes are. I will say, though, that I do have a bit of pride in the fact that I have never left this server or my characters that I originally started with. Well, not until recently. I've been playing my Tauren priest alot more lately for various reasons. But 6+ years on Red Earth and she's been through alot as a character, a raider and a shaman and I still love her.
