4.3 Happy, sad, concerned, estatic?

Blizz designer Tom Chilton announced details of patch 4.3 this week. Amongst them were some...interesting tidbits.

  • Three (3) new 5-man dungeons, all confirmed to be new content, and one rumored to be a Caverns of Time dungeon.
  • A new raid, culminating with the end of Deathwing (Five bucks says Paragon gets world first using some crazy !@# combo like 7 druids, 4 pallies, 3 DKs, 4 hunters, 3 warlocks, a rogue, two warriors, and a priest.)
  • Cross-realm Raid Finder (like the LFD tool, only for bigger groups)
  • The Transmogrifier, the most epic thing to happen to RPers EVER.
  • Void Storage, a huge bank like space that may or may not be account bound. As in, every character on your account can access it.

  • Personally, I'm kinda sad that the Deathwing fight is already up. It kinda signals the end of the expansion (and though I only started playing WoW after this expansion came out, it seems kinda fast). Fighting Deathwing should have been about the culmination of all the rainbow stories Blizzard did with Cata, instead of leaving some zones just...empty (Vash, I'm looking at you.).

However, on the epic front....TRANSMOGRIFIER!!!!!! I know a few people that are going to suddenly start showing up in raids and BGs in their RP armor because suddenly their RP armor is their progression armor, because it's got all the fancy stats.

What do you, fellow CCers, think of the news of patch 4.3?

I don't understand why people are talking about this. The first parts of the patch aren't even on the PTR yet. With such a large amount of content coming out at once, it'll be months and months before we see this patch.

Seriously don't expect it to drop until sometime after Christmas. And even then, if it's like the final raid of the expansion, just like SWP and ICC, expect it to be gated and you won't be able to actually fight Deathwing until weeks and weeks (couple of months) later.

This expansion still has A LOT of time left on it.

I already know what rp gear I'm going to use for the transmogrifier. It's going to be AWESOME...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they stated the transmogrifier will only let you change leather into leather, plate into plate, etc. And that the item must have stats on it.

So unless your RP gear meets that...

There's a fair amount of evidence to suggest that Cataclysm was meant to run about 18 months plus or minus a quarter. If 4.3 drops in November/December that leaves about six months until the next expansion pack. The leaked plan that a lot of people saw says 2012-2Q for the next expansion.

Maybe it will work out that way and maybe it won't. If Blizz can actually hit their dates, then it's going about as expected.

Your mileage may vary but there's a certain logic to it.

What with increased competition and a problem economy, it would make sense for Blizz to try and accelerate their major content releases for which you have to plop down some money.

Vepa is right though. 9 months (plus probably 2 or 3 more realistically) is a long time. So maybe it's a year before we are on to the next big thing, whatever that actually is.

I am still unconvinced that Deathwing is going to be the final boss of this expansion.

If Deathwing is next, then I will hardly be surprised if we see a fourth content patch that will bring us against Deathwing's own master, N'zath, the Twilight Highlands Old God that was named at Blizzcon last year.

I figure N'zoth will be the Sinestra fight of the Deathwing raid: secret heroic-only boss.

That makes a lot of sense, actually.

I doubt N'zoth is going to play much of a role in it at this point. Just like how they're leaving the Throne of the Tides story unfinished, N'zoth probably will be saved for a future expansion of some sort, or play a minimal role in the raid instance that Deathwing will be inside of...perhhaps a phase in the fight itself.

As interesting as it would be to have it as a heroic only boss, Blizzard stated after BC when Kil'Jaedan ended up being the final boss of the expansion instead of Illidan, that they didn't want to undermine the biggest, bad guy of their subsequent expansions. I don't see Deathwing being outplayed by an Old God, that would definitely take away from the epicness of GIANT OMG FIRE DRAGON WITH MELTY LAVA CLAWS!

I believe that's currently true -- but we think they're going to be adding more capabilities as they see how people react and how they can do it. We can hope! At present your RP gear would also have to have stat adjusting qualities to it as well -- no gray gear.

Fortunately, my armor is plate and so is my RP gear. The only thing I'll have to change for RP is my weapon.

I was a little ambivalent toward Transmogification until last night.

When I suddenly realized that from now until the end of WoW I will be able to mog every helm my Warlock gets to look like the Destruction Hologogs from Burning Crusade.

I might actually start playing my warlock because of that, silly as it sounds. I hate the new goggles.
