It started out like any normal night guarding the clinic. Normal except for the additional guards, the small gnome scratching incessantly at her arm and Gentyl's roiling stomach.
"I should have someone take a look at this rash." She pulled her sleeve up a little to show red, welted skin.
"You, Spriggel?" Derscha asked.
The gnome nodded vigorously.
"I'll walk you over to the healers, if you want. But as for the job application, if you want it, consider yourself hired."
She started to hold out her hand and then pulled it back. "I'd shake, but the rash might be contagious."
Derscha nodded and looked around. "Just be warned... if something happens here, as your new boss, I'm ordering you to leave as quickly as you can."
"I'll scurry away faster than a Stonetalon spider, ma'am."
It was a slow night, so Gentyl decided to have them look at her arm. "I might as well have you all take a look at this."
"What is it?" Belpha asked and started unwrapping the bandages on her arm.
"Pang got me last night."
He frowned. "It's a pretty deep cut Sepha, you should have come seen someone sooner. You can't leave things like this to chance"
"Particularly where Pang is involved," Finnaeous added.
"Belpha! Gods, I'm not a child."
Belpha looked at her coldly "Then don't act like one, Sepha. Oh this might hurt"
Gentyl blanched. Her mouth watered and she clutched at Belpha's arm. "I need to sit down. I'm feeling kind of sick."
Tereneimus stepped up to offer his assistance. "Who is this Pang? Someone who's adept at poisons?"
She nodded. "He's a forsaken rogue who thinks his daggers belong in my back."
Belpha summoned a fire totem. "This should keep you calm, which will hopefully loosen you up, you're too stiff to examine properly"
Finnaeus looked on. "I once saw a Forsaken rogue that applied a poison that turned a man to complete stone. I don't know how they operate with their brains filled with maggots, but those Forsaken make some pretty vile and effective compounds."
Gentyl shrugged. "Well, the Commander says I am rather hard-hearted at times. He'd just have the rest of me to go along with it." She doubled over. "I'm getting sick."
Belpha pulled her to her feet. "Let's get inside.
Mithara stood in the doorway, her arms across her chest. "You're not bringing her in here. We're treating someone."
"I'm not going in where the rash is," Gentyl said. "It may be contagious."
Belpha scowled at Mithara. "Get out of my way. We're putting her in a room." He pushed past Mithara and led Gentyl to a room upstairs, where Gentyl promptly found a bucket and vomited.
Downstairs, Kixek, Derscha, Terenimus, Rlinasho, Allonty, Mithara and Harmarth were all gathered around the gnome with the rash that seemed to be spreading.
Gludmilde wrinkled her nose. "Were that a bad fish pukin' or a pais'n one?"
Gentyl groaned and puked again.
Belpha examined her eyes. "They're blue."
Gentyl snorted. "Of course they are, Belpha."
"No, I mean the whites of the eyes are blue. That's not normal."
"The spice must flow?" someone said.
"Spice?" Gentyl's stomach lurched again.
Terenimus came up the stairs. "Something, likely poison, is inevitably causing her body to attack itself. Seems like the stomach's been the first victim."
"I just hope we get out of this without any further injury...as this lovely gentleman indicates, Pang seems to have taken a deeper hold on Gentyl than she thought<" Finnaeous said.
Shiningnight laid a hand on her brow. "She seems feverish."
