The Vigilant Times Charter Issue!

Across the cities of the Alliance, those newsboys and -girls take to the streets again, this time not with pamphlets but with a full-fledged newspaper! "Extra, extra! Read all about it! Goblins release basilisks into night elf forests! Menethil Harbor attacked! Big battle at Bilgewater Harbor! Read all about it!"

Among the articles within are found things like this:

"Once, the entire region known as Azshara looked peaceful and serene. It was home to many beautiful creatures, such as wild hippogryphs, furbolg, and even members of the Blue Dragonflight.

"It was here that the ancient Highborne queen Azshara--for whom the region is named--held court. Thus, it was also here that the kaldorei and their allies bravely faced down the might of the Burning Legion ten thousand years ago, and drove Sargeras himself out of Azeroth. The demon hordes fled before the wrath of the night elves and the Ancients who guarded and aided them...

"But now, the kaldorei are kept from their timeless purpose. Instead, the Warchief of the Horde, Garrosh Hellscream, has declared all of Kalimdor--not just the parts on which the Horde races have built--to be sovereign Horde territory. And pursuant to this, he has turned over the once lush and beautiful landscapes of Azshara--with their picturesque ruins, their perpetually autumn foliage, their hippogryphs and furbolg, everything--to the goblins of the new Bilgewater Cartel."

Drakehide crumpled up the newsletter as he read through the last few words of the final page. His face was beet-red in a combination of offense and rage, and his fists were clenched. He tossed the crumpled-up ball of parchment into the hearth, at the center of his father's home, and scowled.

"Alliance propaganda!" he scowled, "All of it! They know nothing of the Horde, or of honor! I shall have my revenge, in BATTLE!"

Drakehide paused, after a long, awkward silence, glancing around the currently-empty dwelling place. He sighed, crossed his arms, grabbed a blank piece of parchment, and sat himself down at the table.

"And by battle, I mean...a letter to the editor," he grumbled.

When he had finished writing, he paused, briefly, and blinked uncertainly.

"But I think I am going to need another one of those newspapers, since I believe I just burned the mailing address..."

((I have to say, WOW. I read through the Vigilant Times and I was absolutely amazed. Well-written, awesome layout, the pictures were terrific, just...wow. As someone who writes a fair amount, myself, I bow to you, Silverquill and Arnogh. This is brilliant work!))

((Remind me to give you my cross faction so Drakehide can yell at Arnogh ICly!))

((The heck he will yell! Arnogh is not only insulated from yelling-at by his boss (who reserves to herself alone that privilege ;-) ), but we don't make personal contact with the Horde. Keeps us unbiased, dontcha know?))

Seriously though, this and your propaganda pieces in the other threads have been very well done, and I think they're definitely serving their purposes.))

((Yes, they probably would, Arnogh. But in just those words, volumes of wisdom, understanding, and information would be conveyed.))

Derscha laid the newspaper down on her desk. It was the first time in days the desk was properly organized, since Spriggel was no longer rummaging through it. She'd even finally found the missing payroll forms. It had occurred to her that getting a door and lock would solve the problem, but that ran counter to her preference to stay accessible.

The paper lay so the picture of Spriggel, Arietha, and herself was visible. Now she knew what Silverquill had been doing before she'd noticed her presence.

Derscha was quietly reevaluating her opinion of Miss Silverquill and her commitment to 'truth.' Derscha now understood why the editor had been willing to listen to her concerns: it didn't hurt her paper's position. The paper wasn't any worse than propaganda she'd seen elsewhere, on both sides of the fence, but it had the capacity for becoming far more widespread.

The 'Vigilant Times' was proving very popular in Ironforge and Stormwind, where people were singing the editor's praises.

The AAMS had even already received requests for copies to be distributed amongst the Horde, so they'd bought some extra ones to distribute packaged with translations for those who couldn't read Common at no extra cost. It was obviously met there with less approval.

She'd seen AAMS couriers reading copies in Caer Darrow, with similar skepticism on the paper's quality, especially from the members of the AAMS Horde Branch. The AAMS was not swayed by the Vigilants Times' message to beware the Horde. Their offices were proof that both factions could work together.

In the meantime, Derscha would be sure to keep a spot reserved on her desk for the latest issue.

...well, until Spriggel came back from leave. Maybe a lock wasn't such a bad idea.

((OOCly, I'm going to agree that I like your paper. I hope see many more issues!

ICly, though, Derscha's not so pleased to see her colleagues' cultures painted with so broad a brush.))
