The fact that it's 10 years old does't invalidate it as a source of lore. If no new information is made available, then it's safe to assume that what was correct then, is correct now.

Story is not separate from gameplay. This is an intrinsic feature of the video game medium and not a difficult idea to comprehend.

I feel like people are not properly addressing the absurdity of guiding someone through experiencing a game, the entire point of which is making your own story to explore yourself. It completely defeats an entire facet of the medium.

The troll known/unknown stuff is speculation no matter what position you take, as especially taking Vicara's comment into account, we'll need to know exactly what Blizzard does with these MoP quests once they're released in order to understand the implications. That's really all I can think to say at this point. Will it be a retcon? A secret only some elders know?

All I know is that we seem to take Blizzard's work way more seriously than they do.

There's a lot of non-game material to account for in the Warcraft IP universe, in addition to comprehensive questing being less emphasized now in game.

I think this guide took a lot of work and it's great to see someone who cares about the lore so much. We really do have such a rich race and all. There are a few discrepancies but Mely is updating with references for the new stuff. That's what matters right? All guides get kinda picked at to perfection but she still gets due credit. Bravo.

No it was something about them not allowing arcane of some sort. 'aisjrf'aopsmdrf I'm going to have to figure that out again. Maybe it's best I wait. I'm notorious for being stupidly wrong on my assessments.

Well everything is to a degree subjective, but in the end the words at the top of the page ring loudest. Its a Guide, an example, not the end all, be all, once and for all.

Compared to most things though, it as far and away more supported than is typical. Naturally there will be holes, it happens in any research.

Some people are far to concerned with rules lawyering specific details here and there. It is still on the whole a good picture of night elves as a people, even when individuals might be different.

Why not try to stay on the high road here? Avoid getting personal or vaguely-so?

I'm so far on the low road that I'm personally vague.

My feeling concerning Melyria are not any big secret. That aside, the guide itself is not terrible. It just has a lot of ambiguous language and suspect claims peppered throughout it that have gone unanswered, or under-answered.

The cynical part of me believes that the more questionable matters being raised will not be corrected or reworded because it would be a direct affront to Melyria's ego.

The other part of me hopes that the cynical part of me is wrong, because taken as a whole the guide isn't bad and obviously took a lot of work. It would be a shame to leave questionable statements and questionable language in and leave the door open for drama and argument later on.

It is quite hard to separate the author from their work a lot of the time. Overall I agree with both your parts, I can see where there are holes, ambiguous statements, things that could be expanded on, but sometimes sections stop at vague cause that's all the info there is. At the same time I am hopeful for its future as a work, drafts can be rewritten, sections looked at again.

I'm mired in a master's thesis myself, so I understand the process, really no work is ever finished, ever 100%, but at a certain point you just gotta stop and say "Good enough!" or it'll never see the light of day.
