Unannounced, unexpected. The alarms had clanged out all at once sometime past the sixth bell, and moments later the Modas il Toralar had charged through the front gate of Aerie Peak.
The Terrans and their allies had been there, and while Lahkin couldn't say his soldiers had been ready and waiting, they responded with admirable tenacity. The flashes of magic and ringing steel crescendoed until he couldn't be certain who was friend and who was foe standing at his sides. He saw their faces, though. Thelinna, the goblin shaman, the elven hunters--he knew these combatants. It was the same raid force they had beaten off of Menethil Harbor earlier in the month.
Several waves later, and the Terrans seemed to be winning, pushing the Modas out of the keep and down the road. Lahkin breathed a sigh of relief. Minimal casualties, and none of the plagues or explosions the Modas were known for in their assaults.
But it wasn't to be.
Cirae and her wife had been present at the attack, fighting alongside the rest of the defenders. When the Modas retreated, they bid farewells and left for home. Too soon...too soon...
More alarms. Lahkin didn't know if the pair had been dead before the Modas ripped open the portals and pulled them through, or if they had later been killed in the underground of Fenris Isle's keep. In the end, it probably didn't matter.
They had died.
Lahkin only knew Cirae a little, as one-time mentor and the presiding paladin over his unofficial wedding, and he didn't know Dweizel at all. He didn't feel the anger or the sorrow of Kordrion as he gazed sightlessly at their bodies. He didn't feel anything until later that night.
They had died. During his watch, at the headquarters of his order.
His failure.
Lahkin bit his lip until it bled, but his fists tightened. The Modas il Toralar was still at large. The Terra Incognita still had teeth. Somehow, someway, they would make them pay. So many lives lost for the sake of mad men. It had to stop.
And, as the practical side of his mind kicked in, he knew he would need reinforcements to do it.
It was the next morning when Lahkin flew down to the Cathedral in Stormwind to post a letter on its door. He didn't wait long, continuing his journey to Darnassus and the Temple of Elune with the same message, and then to the Exodar and Ironforge. All the letters were the same, and stamped with the same white diamond on black:
Citizens of Stormwind, Azeroth, and Beyond,
The Terra Incognita calls you to arms.
No longer will we suffer the unrighteous or the wicked,
Those who would make victims of the weak or innocent,
Simply because they can.
Today we stand,
Join us in the fight,
For the Light, for the Dawn,
For Terra Incognita!
((First, I wanted to thank the Modas il Toralar as well as Cirae and Dweizel for the awesome RP-PvP last night. It was inspired! I look forward to further scuffles in the future. :)
Second, Terra Incognita is recruiting! We are a heavy RP guild, with our IC theme being wanna-be Argent Crusaders under the official command of Stormwind's Church of the Holy Light. Check us out on the dotOrg, or mosey on over to tiguild.org to drop in an application.
See you around the server!))
