It was the gleam of gold that caught her attention. She had been flying back to Orgrimmar from Hyjal, cutting over Ashenvale to avoid the smell from Bilgewater Harbor. Though of late, the smell of burning wood from Ashenvale wasn't any more pleasant. She was gliding along, when her eagle eyes spotted the gleam on the ground. Flaring her wings she came around lower for a better look-it was gold..and bodies.
She crouched as she landed, shifting forms into a large black cat, well a horned cat anyway. She sniffed the air cautiously as she neared the bodies. Two of them, one by the oily smell goblin or gnome-no, goblin, Ears were wrong for a gnome. The other, his bloodied uniform gave him away. Human. They'd recently been advancing in the Barrens, yet what was one doing here? And what of the goblin? Both had been dead for several hours at least.... The gold was all freshly minted, in Stormwind from the looks of the coins. Shifting forms again, the tauren knelt down by their bodies, puzzled. Why were these two dead, an what where they doing here? From the burn marks.and the fel stench, it could have been the fiends from Satyrnaar, it was just on the other side of those trees.
The goblins hand was clutched around the torn money bag, the humans.. She pulled out the parchment , her eyes widening as she read what was on there. Troop movements to reinforce Splintertree post? Supply schedules for Zoram'gar? What was the human doing with this? With a sinking realization she knew what he was doing...and why the goblin had died with stormwind gold in his hands.
She searched the bodies a bit more throughly, finding a folded letter on the Alliance officer.
“Lieutenant.
I need you to meet with my contact in Ashenvale this evening. The usual place, pick up the payment from the quartermaster. I will also need you to cover for me day after tomorrow, as I'm meeting a new contact with good intel in Mulgore.
In service to the Alliance,
Em.”
“Mulgore? By the Earthmother...there's traitors in our midst!”
gathering the gold and the parchment, she stuffed them into her pack before leaping into the air, her arms transforming to powerful wings. She had to get this information to someone who could stop the traitors.
