Suni's Guide to RPing a Worgen

The worgen druid trainers, at least in the starting area, refer to what they're training as the "old ways". The druidism that they eventually adopt is likely trained by the Night Elves.

The first druid trainer you see in the Gilneas starting area talks about how the old ways, the druid ways, brought the harvest to Gilneas in a time of drought.

Katerana Halley was a simple Gilnean girl, born just after the Greymane Wall was put up. There was never any question in her life about life outside Gilneas, or about Gilneas itself. She was in full support of everything Gilnean, convinced to the peak that it was the best country there could be. When the Northgate Rebellion came, she was terrified, and sided with the King against the rebels. Darius Crowley was put in jail as the leader of the rebels, and Katerana turned back to her life of freedom.

It was simple. She began to tailor and do apple picking for the citizens of Gilneas. They all loved her as she sprung from orchard to orchard, taking the apples back to Gilneas City. Eventually, she was allowed to begin studying arcane arts, which fascinated and challenged her.

When the worgen came, her family was slaughtered. She was bitten, but the worgen that had attacked her was shortly killed afterward by a hunter. Defenseless, she began to get sick and woozy, terribly confused. Brought to the cathedral to be healed, the worgen soon attacked. She was turned into a worgen, as well. The lovely, innocent Gilnean was gone, replaced with someone who had seen practically a lifetime of despair. She still tailored, perhaps with more intricacy and more emotion, and still practiced the Arcane.

A really brief example. I may stick up another one! ^.^

All except for the name, THIS was what I was gonna do.. D:

I have researched and looked over everything I could possibly find, and I was wondering if you would be so kind to put a timeline for this up? Preferably with how many years are skipped between each event starting with the closing of the wall and ending with joining the Alliance? I would be deeply appreciative.

Okay, first let me say that I do really enjoy what you've written up here. Its good to see someone working on helping to flesh out the more lore starved race. However, there is something that I find myself in disagreement with. Namely that the feral tendecies of the Gilnean Worgen have been removed. From everything I've found on the subject this has not been the case.

Most people seem to be getting the idea from the end of the Tal'doren questline. However the final quest doesnt actually say this.

Well of Balance:

Talran of the Wild says: Let the Scythe unbind that which was not meant to be bound! Let the soul master the beast, lest the beast master the soul!

Vassandra Stormclaw says: Just as Dral'nir soothes the cursed druids who gave into the beast and abandoned balance, let Tal'doren soothe <name>.

Lyros Swiftwind says: Just as Goldrinn's spirit once blessed our druids, let <name> be blessed with the wisdom of his race and the ferocity of the wolf god.

http://www.wowpedia.org/Quest:Neither_Human_Nor_Beast

None of these say that the feral nature of the Worgen has been removed. Only that the sentient mind, human in this case, has been 'freed' from the feral allowing it to extert some level of control. Not removing the feral and having the normal mind fill in that gap as many seem to believe. As can be seen in the Duskwood questline with one Tobias Mistmantle.

Stalvan appears in the manor.
Stalvan Mistmantle says: My ring... Who holds my family ring... Tilloa, is that you?
Tobias walks into the manor and confronts Stalvan.
Tobias Mistmantle says: Brother!
Stalvan Mistmantle says: Tobias...
Tobias Mistmantle says: Tell me it's not true, brother. Tell me you didn't die a murderer!
Stalvan laughs.
Stalvan Mistmantle says: It's all true, brother. Every word. You doubted it?
Tobias Mistmantle says: But why?! How could you?
Stalvan Mistmantle says: You know why!
Stalvan Mistmantle says: Surely you've felt anger. Anger so foul and vicious that it makes you want to tear someone to shreds...
Stalvan Mistmantle says: Aren't you feeling it right now?
Tobias morphs into worgen form.
Tobias Mistmantle yells: No... NO! STOP IT!
Tobias and Stalvan begin to battle. Help Tobias kill Stalvan.
Stalvan Mistmantle says: You see, brother... we're not so different...
Tobias Mistmantle says: No...
Tobias rushes out of the manor, back to Darkshire.

Tobias looses control, his anger overwhelms him and the feral mindset jumps back in control. It wasn't removed, either by the Gilnean alchemy or the Druids magics. Indeed the druid magic did exactly what druid's are supposed to do, restore the balance. You cant take the feral nature out of a Worgen anymore then you could sunder a Night Elf's connection to nature or an Orc's bloodlust or a Gnome's need to tinker and fiddle with things etc... Its part of what they are at a fundamental level, no amount of magic spells will ever change that.

All right. THank you! I actually remember doing that quest on the beta, but I forgot.

I much need these little helper things! :D

A time-line can indeed be worked on. I'm still trying to officially work out what or when the Northgate Rebellion was, but I know it was before Cataclysm and after the putting up of the Greymane wall because it was a rebellion against King Genn Greymane. <.< Like, keeping them trapped there.

Time to go through and edit! ^.^

Edit: As much as I know Tobias' last name was Mistmantle, I always forgot he was Stalvan's brother... I should go back and look at this lore. It looks like a few Gilneans strayed from their home, eh? Maybe that's saying something, too.

This is a wonderful post!

I'm really hoping to see some logical Worgen RPers. I'd love to try it myself, but am slightly hesitant as to what the overwhelming response will be from others and the typecasting already set by the woes of the RPing community.

My first worgen character was a Kirin Tor mage that experienced a malfunctioning portal spell to end up behind the Greymane Wall, where he got attacked and inflicted with the Curse. I'm not sure how plausible that is anymore.

Might rework him a bit, unless he's not that bad :/

Zeria, that is technically possible. Might wanna add in some other problems that affect your character, too. Like how he acted before and after the incident, or if he had a family and if they were still alive years later when the gates shattered.

It's fine. I had a worgen planned that's about 30 years old. She was originally from Stormwind, but it fell, and Lordaeron was way too full, so she was forced to stay in Gilneas. She fell in love with a man, and stayed behind the wall when it was built, so she never heard from her brother or anyone. ^.^

I'm really liking this idea. Its also nice to branch out from the SW exodus to Lordaeron that everyone does with older characters. Very well thought out :)

Mine is going to have stared in either Grizzly Hills or Shadowfang Keep and escaped posing as a human. :o

That's always fine too. I just used the general one from Gilneas, because that's the starting zone. I'm not telling you it's -the only- thing you can do, but it's an option. I'll add it into the lore paths, for Grizzly Hills and SFK worgen. :P

Uhmm.. That's.. okay. It is a bit of a spoiler thing. You should still press the 'Like' button anyway! <sagenod>

I think things that involve minor spoilers, if at all, are like, professions and age.. All the simple stuff that everyone knows.

Read through it and it seems pretty good. Didn't think it possible , but now I'm even more excited for RPing a worgen when cata hits. Keep up the good work :P

Nice guide, OP!

By the way, i plan to roll a Gilnean that is not a Worgen... It is possible for her to have escaped Gilneas - after - the wall has been built?

Like... around Burning Crusade time frame.

You could always have had her not been infected during the trials of Gilneas before the Cataclysm. To be honest, escaping the wall is a bit unrealistic because King Genn Greymane didn't let anyone out, and even beyond that, there are no claims of anyone getting out. You'd either have to scale it in the middle of the night and possibly be seen, or something. It's a RP path a lot of people are advised to avoid because of the strongness -against- it.
