Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrande Whisperwind

Why are these characters so irrelevant in WoW when they were totally badass in War of the Ancients. Why do we care about Varian Wrynn or Jaina when we have two of the best lore characters at our disposal? Why did they have to ruin the lore of Tyrande and Malfurion? They were awesome in War of the Ancients but they suck in WoW.

Because Blizzard's creative potential is hampered by nostalgia, and the internet being the internet, people respond to "the good old days" with great enthusiasm, even if it was a far inferior product.

Maybe one day they will snap out of it? Who knows.

Why did you make a thread while one about the two characters is up?

I didn't see them before I created this one.

Because WoW should be about humans and orcs.

I would like to point out one word in the WoW title "World," not "Orc and Human World," it is just "World."

Because Blizzard got stuck in WC1 and 2 nostalgia and forgot that everything from WC3 on existed.

Wish Blizzard would think like that.

I'm going to go with "because they're not Humans".

Most faction leaders are kind of irrelevant. Only Varian, Vol'jin, Lorthemar, and Garrosh really did anything significant in MoP. Having them use their super powers in WoW like they did in the books would kind of make the players irrelevant.

Its bad writing to make characters so powerful that if they decided to act they'd crush all their enemies.

So instead of trying to fix the situation, Blizzard does nothing (because they don't know what to do) and Nelf fans get more and more annoyed.

Also, they resurrect some dead Night Elf aligned ancients and do nothing with them as well.

Bad writing.

Also, Blizz was worried (rightly) that a large chunk of its players couldn't relate to anyone who wasn't just like them (i.e. self-righteous, hypocritical, [many more adjectives all edited out to retain a semblance of civility] humans).

I'm pretty sure it's because they have to deal with loads of fans who seem to do nothing but complain. Make even the smallest, most insignificant change to WoW (or do nothing) and all a sudden you have people saying that it's ruined. It's hard to make people happy when it's always like that.

Believe me. I've been there myself.

Of course I believe you, that's true with ANYTHING. There will always be people who are unhappy, no matter what changes are made.

The thing is, nobody can deny that retconning Night Elf culture and making them absolute idiots and having story inconsistencies (Remember when Tyrande got shot by the Orc Arrow? I mean, doesn't she have a constant Elune shield??) is just BAD WRITING.

When they write about Night Elves, they should be consistent. And obviously people don't like the "Tall, purple skinned nature loving humans with pointy ears" turn the night elves have taken.

Bad writing in War of the Ancients or in how Blizzard has handled it?

My theory is that Blizzard views the Night Elves as a mistake, and is trying to painfully transition them into being high elves to reverse it.

Despite the years of complaints from the fanbase.

Either way, don't expect things to get better. They can only get worse. When it comes to Night Elf lore, the only way to win is not to play.

This is why I always find the fan demand for actual high elves odd. Night elves have been pretty much turned into purple skinned high elves. Most of what made them cool was been swept under the rug, or got assimilated by the neutral Cenarion Circle.

You do realize that Malfurion and Tyrande are "The Good Old Days" too right?

So Peoples opinions are hampered by nostalgia, even if they were inferior products.
