You know, the RP forum just wouldn't feel the same without the monthly "Homosexuality in Roleplaying thread resurrection".

Most people refuse to tolerate things they are uncomfortable with.
If someone is (For some odd reason) deeply offended by homosexuality in their lives, then they certainly aren't going to be accepting of it in their role play. Personally, I think this topic really shows who is and isn't comfortable with themselves and others around them by the way they act toward it. In my mind: Someone's sexuality in real life or in RP is not my concern (Nor is it in my characters perspective half the time) people make their own choices and it's not my place to tell them if it's the right one or not.
Instead of trying to educate people on the direct topic of homosexuality in art, writing, roleplay, gaming, whatever. I think we should try and help others to realize that their fears are being projected onto others wrongly, and that behavior like that is unacceptable especially in social settings that are meant to be pleasant for everyone.

12/26/2010 03:34 PMPosted by RaikoyagamiPlease be open and honest in your thoughts and comments.
I must say that this made me laugh. Don't make a discussion about a topic if you don't want to hear one half of the conversation.
Anyway, yes, it makes perfect sense lore-wise.
However, depending on what race it is where it will make more or less sense.
It is far less likely among humans, dwarves, gnomes, and the other more short lived races to be wide spread because they are constantly involved in wars and die very rapidly. Thus, they also need to reproduce rapidly.
On other other side, very likely with night elves. They spent 10,000 hanging around and keeping the oven warm for their men. Also very plausible for Draenei (though I am loath to say it because there are so many terrible Dreanei players) since they are extremely long-lived.
Now, Blizzard has never said that the Light based religions have any kind of rules against homosexuality the way most real religions due, but I am going to guess that there are in fact no rules against it. I would guess this because Blizzard always makes things nicer and friendlier and wouldn't want to piss off a demographic of its players. They also try to just avoid hot topics all together so you probably won't hear them comment on it at all.
As such, with the long lived races (primarily discussing the Draenei) they probably end up having a very different way of thinking when it comes to reproduction and matters of the heart and the Light doesn't really influence them one way or another.
It may come to the point where one is in a homosexual relationship because of emotional reaons (loving that person for who they are) and simultaneously having sex with a partner of the opposite gender for the purpose of producing a child and none of the three people involved feel that there is anything morally wrong with what is occuring. Nor does the homosexual person's partner feel betrayed because that person is similarly a very long lived creature with different outlooks on life.

No i do not believe that it would be very wise to have a homosexual lore character. I do not want to discriminate, but at this point in time there are just TOO MANY DAMN ARROGANTS(yes i just put that as an noun because for lack of a better word racists is techniclly incorrect). However i see no problem at all with gay players. Its their decision, however Blizzard is the one who decides to create the npcs. There are some instances where hints of homosexuality already exists (take the day deathwing came quest for example. A male gives you a quest. Part of it includes picking a "hot babe" as a partner. One of the choices is a blood elf male. Belf=hot babe? Not in a "straight" males eyes, but who knows.) i just think its too early to release any keystone lore npcs, but players right to be/act gay is totally up to them. I dont mind.

As far as lore goes, I think it is rather legitimate. Especially for the "immortal" races. Try putting yourself in the shoes of someone who lives virtually forever for a moment. Don't even think about the physical aspect of the relationship between someone and you, who lives virtually forever. Eventually, that physical yearning will always take back seat to the comforts of emotional companionship. And as the ages turn, I would imagine the gender of said loved one would matter less and less. The love present, the emotional proximity would matter much more.
The Draenei apparently outdated the elves by quite a bit and their world has been torn asunder. The high elves and the night elves suffered similar atrocities. So many single lives that took as long to live as mortals take to breed and create ancestries were snuffed out as though they never were. Lore wise, the immortal races are few and far between-giving cause to believe that a lot of them have lost the will and also the ability to procreate after so much destruction. Therefore, what's the gender matter?

12/26/2010 07:44 PMPosted by TzielWould Orc's accept two men coupling as a part of a warriors bond?
For the longest time, I've been trying to work out a believable reason as to why Malachyte had been suffering from a lethargy ever since returning from the Northrend Campaign, with possible ideas ranging from natural Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to loosing something precious to him there (though this idea was mainly a material one, like Malachyte losing a family heirloom sword or something, which I didn't like).
Eventually, the more I thought about it, the more I started working out and entertaining the idea of Malachyte having a "warrior bond" with someone; it's progressed enough that I rather like the idea and may finalize it. In summary, Malachyte was normally hostile towards the Orcs and the Horde in general, but during a scrimmage with the Scourge, he managed to save the life of an Orc working for the Argent Crusade; "one less zombie for the Scourge", he rationalized. They didn't like each other at first, and on the surface that didn't seem to change at all, but it did gradually develop into a "homosexual relationship" between the two, though neither would admit it, much less do anything sexual. It was the orc's death during the assault on Icecrown that eventually threw him into his lethargy, the sudden absence of someone who bonded with him being as much of a shock as someone who lost a significant other or a mate. It would be a situation similar to if Jadaar or Asric died; how would the other react?
It feels like a legitimate way of introducing a same-sex "couple", without flaunting it.
