Another crossover I will mention is Project: Elseworlds. Another good one that went on for a while, blending Halo with the World of Warcraft. Some Spartans land on Azeroth to find some weird people from different races coming to see what they're doing.

No, no, see, you don't get to add to the lore, Blizzard gets to add to the lore, not you.

So creating a character/person with his or her own history, relationships, et cetera related to the Warcraft universe, or any universe, is not considered adding to the lore?

not really no, because its not defy the set rules and lore set for the wacraft universe, lets put it like this...if you dont see anything wrong with crossover rp...I suggest you take a step back, take a break from roleplaying and do some research on existing WoW lore and read some tips to become a good Rper before continuing

To elaborate back to 'a new beginning', I will explain the plot; it starts with a man entering a portal on Earth and being transported to Azeroth and going into the service of King Varian Wrynn. The man meets a goblin(a player) and the two talk for about a page or two. Then my character, another human from Earth, get's transported to Ogrimmar from his dreary no good life back home. He is consequently turned into a troll and has to deal with the trauma of race-change. Meanwhile, a night elf named Burnkin(Player) decides to be the bad guy and hopes to corrupt David(My character) to his side.

No, because none of that would be added to the official story. Writing a story that Blizzard acknowledges as official lore would be adding to the lore.

I never role-played in World of Warcraft before, which is why I am interested. I don't plan on role-playing as a drow, I just don't agree with how you and many others see crossovers.

ooooh, that explains it, well you cannot disagree with what you dont know anything about so...I declare the main topic of the thread closed....now who wants donuts and waffles?

Nope, considering that character has no direct effect on the lore.

I beg to differ. Can you truly not see how a crossover can make sense? I can imagine that those who are creative enough to give their characters personalities, histories, et cetera can create an explanation as to how a crossover can make sense.

thats the thing, there is no way for it to make sense , in the warcraft universe, there is no such thing as the world from the forgotten realms, or earth, or any other place crossovers can come from. Roleplay with warcraft lore while RPing in WoW or dont role play at all

The orcs and draenei came from another world or realm, did they not?

They came from another planet IN (keyword 'in') the warcraft universe, they are not brought from another made up story/movie/game/anything else

Role-playing is about pretending. One can pretend that the Forgotten Realms universe and the Warcraft universe are in the same plane of existence if he or she wanted to. One can pretend that a portal opened in Azeroth that connected it to Faerun and vise versa. It may not be "lore-friendly", but it allows one to use his or her imagination to create a story, an explanation as to why such events are occurring. Is imagination not what role-playing is for?

all in all, if you want to roleplay a Drow, do so in DDO not in WoW, or write a fanfic, or ...dont do. Crossovers in general, in most rp scenarios are bad /end thread

A thread will not end just because you say so. But, I have stated what I believe and I believe I have heard all possible responses I can hear from others to my questions, so this thread truly is over unless anyone would like to discuss things further.

Role-playing is about pretending.

Role-Playing is also about pretending within a specific setting or universe. Bringing two different things together does not work no matter how bad you are trying to make it. I don't see why you even care enough to argue further since you do not Role Play yourself.

I care because I want to understand. I do not see what others see and others do not see what I see.

You've stated you've never RP'd on WoW before, so, of course, this kinda of idea sounds really fun and nifty.

You did this on an RP server that actually cared about lore, you would be getting a lot of tells stating that you can't play a Drow, or worse, end up on one of those bad roleplayer websites!
This is because us roleplayers take our lore seriously. Your Drow does not belong in WoW, your human sucked into her computer does not belong in WoW, your half demon night elf human grandma child does not belong in WoW.

You play a Night Elf, which is rich in thousands of years of lore. You can make an unique, creative character with the lore you are given. It shows your talent as a writer to use the lore given to you to make a character like that.

exactly this, if you or anyone tried t do this, I can think of a 'bad Roleplayer' website they will show up on *winkity wink, nudge nudge*
