I did get to observe some RP last night at the Blue Recluse with my throw away alt. It was nice to see a small group of RPers there.

I noticed some people did not have any roleplay addons. Its not a big deal or anything but there were enough people (I thought) without it to leave an impression in my mind. Is there a reason why some folk do not use addons like MRP?

It would really help out new people like me to spot RPers especially in a server where the RP community is smaller. Descriptions wouldn't even be necessary; the addon would just function as a tag. And besides, I tend to just gloss over any description or history beyond a couple of short paragraphs.

I don't use addons because I chatlog a lot of stuff to get dialogue right in stories that I write up. Most rp addons that I've used also log a tremendous amount of hidden stuff in the background. So, instead of me sorting through 50 pages to get five pages of story I wind up sorting through 200 pages. It pretty much makes the logs worthless and I prefer getting dialogue correct and timelines correct.

That is a very good question!

About a year ago I tried to get everyone organized to use the same addons, back before a lot of them could communicate with each other. Sadly, it never took off and some people don't use any, while others use a wide selection of them.

I use to use MyRolePlay, but have come to enjoy TRP2. Of course, I encourage all RPers to use GHI, which has amazing RP utility.

My understanding is (I could be very wrong) the most common addons like MRP and TRP no longer uses a chat channel to store RP information. So it may no longer affect your logs. But I could be totally wrong since I have no expertise in this matter.

I use MRP and I can read TRP descriptions and MRP identifies characters using TRP. I believe the two addons use the same protocol now but TRP has a lot more features. I use MRP because it is simpler to use.

I just never really use mods. I tried going to curse when I got going with WoW RP but the website and my computer don't seem to get along. Although its a fairly safe bet that if someone stays inside the Wyvren's Tail or Blue Recluse for more than a few seconds they're an RPer.

From what I understand, and I will have to do more research into it, is that the various RP addons do still use a chat channel to communicate; but the biggest difference is that the up to date ones all use the same communication protocals and channel, thus, TRP2 and display some MRP information, etc (mostly names, etc).

I will have to look into that a bit more since I have a feeling that everything was streamlined when cata was released and various blizzard protocals where changed clientside to allow better communications.

MRP, until recently, was always the one I liked the most. Not nearly as detailed as TRP2 but it was light and got the job done. I recently changed to TRP2 because a number of people I played with on a different also used it and it has a built in GHI type item creation system that they were using as part of the storyline I was a part of.

Either way, however, I would love to see more RP related addons being used. I can't say enough about GHI as the group I was recently playing with were some kind of GHI specialists. The things they made were amazing!

I have been toying with all sorts of GHI toys, and encourage more people to use it. I am currently working on signets and other guild and organization identifiers. I've also made things like revolving pistols and books (catalogs for my crafting guild). I also have a special set of tools that my character uses to inspect finished items, along with an enchanted stamp to mark them.

I digress. I'm glad you enjoyed watching in the Recluse!

I have another question.

Are most RPers on this realm part of the guilds found on the sticky list? How challenging would it be to start up a roleplay guild at this point seeing CC is an older realm?

I don't think it would be hard at all, really. There is a lot of lore that has barely been touched upon: such as a Night elf sentinel guild or even and Argent Dawn-ish guild, etc, etc. If you are looking at making your own mark, there isn't really anything stopping you from starting one up.

The key, however, will be to advertise. Some of the long time RPers might not leave their established guilds, but we get influxes of new RPers all the time.

EDIT: before my break, I ran a very successful advertising campaign for the AAMS in /trade of all places. That's right, trade. In fact, it was so successful that after one weekend I had to stop because we had already recruited the number of new members we were shooting for. I actually started advertising other guilds, and that worked pretty well.

I have had no trouble starting up my new guild but my intention was only to get enough people to run 5-man dungeons IC on a regular basis, so I didn't have really big ambitions or anything. We're having a blast though so far!

I advertised mostly here on the forums, but since play schedule was such a huge component of my guild I also did some very minimal and tasteful advertising in in-game channels at the very beginning to catch people who were on at the right time already.

If I was available during the days I would have joined the Stonebreaker Clan, Egar. It seems things are going well for you!

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll probably be wandering around on my alt again tonight.

Play schedule would also be a focal point, along with solid RP, of my recruitment if I decided to start up a guild.

Someone has been kicking around the idea of doing a joint Draenei-Orc RP organization based around preserving the Outlands (and escorting leveling players through it) but I don't think any guild charters have been signed. Personally I love the Draenei lore and would appreciate a Draenei-themed guild, whether Outlands-based or not.

However, I did find, trying to start a Gilneas-themed guild, that there aren't a lot of RPers in total on CC and many have characters that are involved in existing storylines. Which is great! I love the epic stories that come out of CC. But, since we are so story-focused, it may take playing the character(s) who are founding the guild almost exclusively (especially hard for me as an altoholic), co-sponsoring events, and starting your own epic story threads to really establish a new guild in the community's awareness. And it might get lonely, especially when you see big established guilds like LO and Pia continuing to be an active part of our RP. I know that the camaraderie was what tempted me to lay aside the Gilnean Liberty Brigade, for now and possibly for good. (If the monk class is any good, come MoP I might change my main from Celandine here to a Draenei monk who has been charged with gathering the flock for the prophesied Army of the Light.)

I'm away from my gaming computer for Christmas until the 28th, but if either of you, Kalen or Rusin, wanted to talk more about Draenei RP or anything really, feel free to send a mail or just reply to the thread! :)

Sure thing. If I do make the move, I'll be bringing Kalen over, with a new name of course. I just don't have the energy to roll up a new character anymore so Kalen is both my main and really my only character I play these days.

I figured starting a new guild will take some patience. CC is one of the orginal servers so the community is pretty settled. Even on WrA, it can be a challenge to start up a new guild now and that server is only two years old.

As a note, for Horde-side, if you are genuinely interested in tips/ideas/help in general you will get help. A number of us Horde-side just feel very passionately about lore and making RP as intense and fun as is possible in a way that fits into the WoW setting, which may be what has been interpreted as grumpy. Also, I am tired. Please forgive me if what I said made absolutely no sense.

The Outlands organization won't be a guild-based thing, but is related to GHI in a way. :)

I considered building an Argent Dawn-like guild, but the niche is satisfactorily filled for now.

I'd be delighted to see more participation by the Fellowship of Teldrassil, our long-lived (and still kicking!) Night Elf guild. I see them around, doing PvE activities, but I SO rarely see them in, or at least talking, in our global channels.

I'm playing with the idea of starting an evil version of the Order of the Silver Hand before summer, but I have to see if things will settle down enough by winter's end to allow me to play with the concept enough/get members for it. Could be sooner, even.

(EDIT: If you're interested in joining the Netherguard of Draenor, let me know. We are still working up the concept and finding leaders/founders that aren't me, as all my mains are Dwarves.)

Ah, so you're behind that, Rhudran. Good to know. If you see Rhaala in-game, that's my draenei, and she may be interested in participating. Cleoh the goblin too for that matter; she spent a lot of time raiding with alliance "mercenaries" and remembers Outland fondly. How are you organizing it so far? Do you have channels for it yet?

You'd be surprised; I know especially on Horde a lot of the old RPers from Vanilla & BC left over the last couple of years (with a famous exception or two). It's kind of eerie going through the old AAMS interviews and realizing that the vast majority of those characters are just gone now. And any community changes in character given long enough--as you've seen on WrA. But I'd think despite that we've hung on to some core values that make CC unique.

I helped run a Draenei only guild on another, unmentionable, server.

We made our base camp in Azure Watch, moving as a group into darkshore, and again into Ashenvale. We had an amazing time ICly raiding into the Barrens and attacking Orc camps, villages and towns there as retribution for the war on Dreanor.

My character personally lead the IC raid that burned the Cross Roads with our Night Elf allies and slaughtering their militia and civilians (we even ICly captured a few players in the area and took them back to our camp as prisoners). It was a fairly significant server event at the time as it sent a clear signal to the Horde guilds, especially the two Orc guilds, that the Draenei meant business.

From there, we entered into some negotiations, and a ceasefire, which ended when one of the Orc guilds attempted to destroy what was left of the Exodar. Our guild went into full offensive mode and with the help of our human and dwarf friends arriving from Theramore and Ratchet we burned everything Orc related right up to the gates of Orgrimmar over a four week period.

Finally, they decided to submit to our demands.

That was an amazing RP experience, and if we got a group of Draenei and N.Elves together to attempt something like that, I would certainly be interesting in it!

@Vasilia

That sounded amazing and I was thinking of something similar to do. Actually, it's exactly something I'd like to involve myself in.
