((I never processed that XD. Tayrune is nosey enough to figure it out, though. She would just have to go through Rue's things, find a picture of Lumianas (Rue's cousin), and look at all the similarities in appearance. I was lazy with him-- He's just a male version of Rue.))

((And I believe the plural of "Metropolis" is "Metropolises" or, since it came from Greek, went through Latin and then came into the English language, "Metropoli". I say both are correct.))

one way to get around the criminal deciding not to take their punishment, Say Joe Rouge stabs someone, is caught by the guards, tried and sentenced to hang. Joe's guild, lawyer, or maybe just joe himself if he's alone gets a message to a certain nobleman, a bit of gold passes hands...ding! Pardoned! It's already been set that the nobility of SW is slightly corrupt, (I think the Defias would say a bit more than slightly) and the King is occupied with the Horde. "yes it's regrettable that Joe Rogue was allowed to go free, however we have to look at the big picture, we need everyone we can to fight the Horde!"

I figured. ^^; Hope I didn't bother anyone by my earlier "metropolitamusses" remark, it was just a botched attempt at humor. I was sleep-deprived, sitting at the computer, over-caffeinated, and...events just took their own course. xD

((Except that they'll just keep doing it. And doing it. And getting in the face of people trying to do reasonable RP and doing it some more. ("Ha! I stab you and you die! And I get away with it! I am the God of Assassins! You cannot stop me! I'm paid up with the right people so I OWN EVERYONE!") People who insist they shouldn't suffer the logical consequences of their IC actions often aren't the kind of people who only do it once.

((I'll grant you that it happens (all too often) IRL, but I don't know if one wants that can of worms opened in-game. We had consequence-evasion happen so often on my previous server that people started mugging fully-armed warriors right out in the open--and if you declined to participate, you got labeled an elitist [obscenity of your choice]. I'm not exaggerating; you literally couldn't be in Stormwind alone without being fatally assaulted by an invincible street hooligan. So pardon me if I'm being judgmental; I can only operate from experience.))

((I totally agree with you on this. If you want to roleplay a criminal, you either try not to do it in the open or get killed. I actually had a murderer a little while ago-- I needed another character slot so I asked someone from the Stormwind Watch to do away with her. I have to say, even though I only planned her death for an extra character slot, it was EPIC, I daresay one of the most entertaining things I had ever planned in Roleplay.

Dante was fun while she lasted though XD))

We've had some experience already when a criminal unilaterally decided on the bribery route. It's not a lot of fun for the people who put time in catching the criminal. I would discourage that as a solution.

I hope that putting these laws out there does create a better class of criminal, aka, serious ones who put thought into their actions and don't stupidly attack others in plain sight. I believe that would lead to more story-based crimes and fewer "I'm bored and want to cause trouble" crimes. The former are a lot more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Here's the list of crimes with proposed punishments. They are broken into categories based upon severity - essentially Classes 1 -6. Many of the types of punishments are the same; the difference would be the length of the sentence. So really the discussion has to deal with two points. First, is the type of punishment appropriate. Second, what are reasonable lengths of for sentences.

Notes on punishments:

Exile - character would not be allowed to RP within Stormwind territory until the sentence was over.
Execution - public execution with resurrection after a certain period. The character may not RP while their character is dead.
Military Service - the character has to RP that they are performing some military functions until the sentence is over
Jail time - the character is confined to the Stockade and cannot RP outside of it until the sentence is completed
Asset Seizure - the Watch takes the illegal items away from the character
Community Service - the character has to RP performing some publicly beneficial tasks as directed by the Watch
Fine - the character pays some gold to the Watch. The gold will be used as event prizes.

Crime Punishment

Murder...........................................................Exile, Jail Time, Execution
Treason..........................................................Jail Time, Execution
Attempted Murder...........................................Exile, Jail Time, Military Service

Assault...........................................................Exile, Jail Time, Military Service
#%#@..............................................................Exile, Jail Time, Military Service
Sedition..........................................................Exile, Jail Time
Trafficking of Sentient Beings...........................Exile, Jail Time, Asset Seizure

Theft.............................................................Community Service, Jail Time, Fine
Vandalism......................................................Community Service, Jail Time, Fine
Trafficking of Grade C Contraband...................Community Service, Jail Time, Fine
Disturbing the Peace.......................................Community Service, Jail Time, Fine
Interfering with a Watch Investigation.............Community Service, Jail Time

Littering........................................................Community Service, Fine
Unlicensed Animals........................................Community Service, Fine

We also have two other crimes, "resisting arrest" and "conspiracy to commit x," "x" being one of the previously listed crimes. We split them off separately because they are really more like modifiers to a more severe crime. An additional charge of resisting arrest would increase the sentence severity of the main crime, while conspiracy would decrease the severity (since the person only indirectly assisted in committing the main crime).

Also, if people commit repeated crimes, we suggest that the sentences should increase in severity. I'm not going to suggest a bunch of sentence lengths for anything at the start, because I don't want to bias the discussion.

I look forward to hearing what you all think.

Here is the list of contraband items. Ones with asterisks could potentially be allowed with a permit. The permit idea came into existance to still give people the ability to legally RP with those items. There is some chance for abuse, but hopefully it's not a big enough deal in-and-of itself for people to bother with that. I'd encourage serious people with GHI to either make their own permits, or get ones from us. :)

I know. I was responding to Tayrunne. It's like my, "is it mooses or meese" thing. I do have a sense of humor every other day.

((@Gentyl on the grammar/humor subject, no worries! I know that I get carried away sometimes. ^^; I'll stop derailing this thread now. xD Also, I'll prolly stay out of it cuz it's not my place to speak up on Stormwind's justice system, uh, especially given Drake's recent damage of Stormwind property...*whistles innocently*))

Really the only propaganda we're talking about is anything against the government and its policies.

We're interested in everyone's opinions, because we want a good set of laws and punishments that the community agrees on. :)

It's entirely open to expansion as well, this was just a starting point as far as previous suggestions made.
