Okay, it destroyed my original character, but I was creative enough to salvage that and turn it into something new without feeling the innate need to simply hit delete.

Really? Getting ganked a few times makes you want to delete your character?

That's... wow.

What I'm talking about is a low level toon (naked since my armor kept getting trashed - level 40 toon) getting attacked and camped by 85 toons. There is nothing justified in that.

The bonfires where outside the towns in reasonably 'safe' areas. If it were not for the achieves and xp I probably would not have bothered.

I do have to agree with this. Yes, the poster could have deflagged, yes, the poster could have waited for five minutes before rezzing, but it still doesn't really benefit the people who do it and it makes them look like jerks. PKing doesn't make you look better, brings you no respect, offers no challenge and honestly isn't fun.

Now, I have gone after low level players in the past myself, but that's usually because they're doing something egregious, like attacking Lor'danel, (which commits puts you far over the moral event horizon for me. You're going after refugees, seriously?) and I certainly won't camp them, even if I keep a fix on them to make sure that they don't do something like that.

Bottom line: a bit of courtesy is certainly not uncalled for, and yes, you should be criticized for not showing it.

I know how you feel :( People love to fly into Camp Mojache and murder /only/ the group of 20 or so Freewind Post refugees that are like, level 20 and crying about their lost ones and fate. It makes me qq

That sounds a bit worse to be honest. With Lor'danel, people usually stick around because they have an unhealthy hate for things with pointed ears, and because I typically hang out in Darnassus (talking to the fish... Seriously people, if you RP and are bored when I am online, come to Darnassus. I will RP with you.) I can usually respond pretty quickly.

With that though? That HAS to be annoying.

It generally is, since even as a mage that can teleport to Thunder Bluff, I rarely get there in time. Oh do they suffer if I catch them though :3

There seems to be a lot of talk about jerks in this thread.

Naturally, I felt obligated to make an appearance.

Honestly, I think the concept of pvpers being jerks is a rather old and tiring concept. I've been around the community locally for sometime and had the chance to raid, bg or play on the Tournament Realm with some of the larger known players outside of this server and I have yet to really find this prick attitude that everyone talks about. I can personally vouch for people like Hoodrych, Freeziepops and Kollektiv who were all very awesome to talk too.

The people that I associate myself with are actually very nice and cool people, even Avarence, who might seem like a stuckup !@#$%^- but is actually a really cool guy and if anyone ever took the time to even get to know us, you might feel differently.

This all being said, CCPvP is meant to be a clean, safe place for people that either want to start pvp or for the veterans to find more of it. The actual amount of policing that can even be done in a public channel is next to none, but angry 12 year olds aside, it is kept civil out of respect.

The thing is though that some people behave differently in different settings. One of the best people I've ever met in this game both in terms of skill (both PvE and PvP) and as a person, is really a big troll to people. He would go PUG a raid on an alt and insult the raiders in that group for being bad and fail, and if the group is really bad he would just up and leave without saying a word. Of course, he's not politic at all when it comes to telling others who he thinks is bad (with names, both guild and toon names). So to me, he's one of the best people I ever played with because he's very nice and awesome at this game, but to others he might be a big jerk.

I know I am like that to some extent too. I find myself very relaxed and goofing around when playing with people of a similar skill level... but when I PvP with people who are not experienced/undergeared/plain bad I get very irate very quickly... to the point where I 'rage'.

It is this type of two-facedness that I suspect is at play for a lot of players.

That certainly is true, I do get frustrated when playing with people who simply refuse to be good. But being on the other end of that was how most of the current pvps started. I can definitely tell you I was pretty terrible when I first started, but people like Zl, Xain and Cloverelf always treated me nicely.

There are plenty of pvpers that don't have the patience to handle new players or new pvpers and there are some that can. That was the original idea behind CCPvP was to be a place that we could find people who really had a desire to learn to pvp and get better and from there it got derailed on the details of people not having patience.

I get what you're saying about the split-personality though, but appearances isn't everything...unless they are, in which case I'm a sexy Irishman who is secretly James Bond. Hello ladies.

The whole "all PvPers are jerks" thing is pretty old as was already said.
I remember when I first started learning how to PvP and just play my hunter correctly. I asked a few good PvPers on the server and they were really nice (even though numerous people had said they were going to just laugh at me.)

Times have changed and as Elgu already said people sometimes change depending on their surroundings. I know I get really uptight in raids when we are trying to progress and people do stupid things. Or I get a little upset in Arenas but that can happen.

Most of the people I talked on this server were helpful back when I started out. (Even Atrakinze who told me to gtfo and go read the forums helped me.. >_>) Which is why I go out of my way to help new Hunters too.

-Clears throat.- ...Why can't we be friends...
Ya?!

You should be ragin' then, cuz there are quite a few baddies in your guild. Just a heads up! ^_^

No offense but you don't even have the 1750 achievement... please don't jump on the band-wagon and call other people bad.

I think this should be emphasized. There are at least two types of people who're bad at PvP: those who are bad but know they are bad and are trying their darndest to get better, and those who are bad but is totally oblivious to their fail (like every !@#$%^ who laments at how Horde/Alliance is terrible at BGs this morning, because they lost 10 in a row... did I mention these asshats are always undergeared and/or downright terrible?). I think most PvPers are ok with the first type. If someone is asking me genuine questions on how to improve their play, I will rarely say no, unless I am busy doing something else. But if they're bad and trying to tell everyone else how fail they are, then that gets me irate pretty quickly. I have no patience for these people. Now you can make an inference here... there is a wide perception that RP'ers are uptight about minor things, and make very little effort to actually be good at this game. These two factors combined generally land them in the second category of bad players.

I wish to re-iterate my point that players are separated by skill to a very large extent. I've stopped playing with quite a few very nice, very pleasant people because they are just not good at this game and I can't play with them for long without feeling irate. The key is to find both in people: someone who's nice and pleasant and around the same skill level as you.

I was pointing out that despite some of your guildies best efforts to fan the flames and call us bad, I have been mercilessly farming some of your members and took many screenshots, so please cool your jets bros, you aren't THAT good.

If you want to call other people bad you better be the best, and you're not.

Rig, you're taking one person trying to counter-troll Avarence from Dominion as an action of an entire guild. Please stop trying to further he hate between Dominion and us, thanks. The fact is that there a ton of cool people in Dominion that has wished me the best for this guild and offered if I ever needed help I could go to them.
