Mistaken for Gentyl? Oh, horrors...

Anyway! Reading in more detail, the religious language may be of contention. For one, it can be hard to RP as having a separate language and still be cohesive, either with guildies who OOCly don't know the language or for people who are ICly not a part of a religion but still want to interact with you. Languages are things that hard to pull off properly and not look....amateurish? Okay, that sounded elitist. Bad Lahkin!

The other bits really depends on how much it fits with the deity you choose, but assuming it does, I think it's all quite suitable. :)

I really like this, and I think it's also good you're so open to ideas about it. Cheers!

Oh, the language thing was just dropped in there for fun; it's not necessary for anything, but knowing it can be entertaining. I'll take it out, though, since that could be off-putting. Thanks. :)

(( Alright, I have a candidate or two for the true identity of Arakor. I'll think on it some more, and disguise a bump as a legitimate concern (would like more feedback!). ))

(( To attempt to be somewhat more helpful in my criticism, might I suggest looking at the 'Highborne' that rejoined the Night Elves?

They're a sort of 'cult'. Maybe you could base something off them? They were certainly creepy, IIRC. ))

((To which Ven here would reply, "Who are you calling 'creepy', taint-blood?" *grins*))

(( Okay. I know who the true identity of Arakor is! Buuuut where's the fun in saying it here? It could be fun to speculate for a while, before more people know. Plus, it's definitely ostracize-able. The name has been changed to Knell of Arakor, so there's no disconnect between stars and bells and whatnot. Going to go change the name of the thread now.

Since this is a feasible group, I am now, officially, really, opening the guild up to the public! If you want to join, find me ingame somehow and we'll set up an interview at our convenience. ))

((You can make up all the crazy cults you like.

You just can't treat them as anything BUT crazy, made-up cults.

Andelia talks to god and tells people about it all the time, but that's because she's !@#$%^- insane. There is no actual god talking to her and there never will be mystical in-game events associated with it.

At the point where you're trying to get other RPers to go along with a made-up, non-lore god that's having in-game effects, it's not gonna happen. You'll have to explain it to every new RPer that gets involved.

So a cultist guild? Fantastic! But it has to be either a charlatan's or a delusional's product, just like cults in the real world. Trying to make up one with a basis in "fact" won't fly.))

(( Why does my guild have to be a cult? I mean, in the sense that all religions are cult-ish, then I suppose it is. But a new convert to any religion will hardly know everything there is to know about their chosen faith. Why should I discourage that?

Arakor doesn't do anything in-game if he's completely made up. He's just attributed to a lot of things, in the same sense that real religions attribute things to their god(s).

If Arakor is based on a lore deity, then how can I avoid being based in "fact?" I was advised to make Arakor an alternate name for a in-game god, and now you seem to be telling me not to while also condemning a made-up god. Could you explain, Andelia? :( ))

((See, to disagree with the people saying keep it to an ingame entity, I love the idea of this organization suddenly appearing with seemingly insane* people worshipping a new god nobody even heard of before. There's scope for IC debate over whether this god even exists, OOC debate over whether they've actually been duped by an old god pretending to be Arakor, whether perhaps Arakor is a Naaru that contacted people on Azeroth while the others were working on the Draenei, or even whether a new entity has literally just come into being/been rediscovered. It doesn't actually break any canon, so far as I'm concerned it's fine, just so long as you're not asking everyone to accept it as an established religion that's been around all along in lore.))

((* That is, insane from the IC PoV of everyone that never heard of this god before and thinks theirs is the "true" one. ))

((One final note. The "mystery" of Arakor would really need to be kept intact. Don't ever reveal whether there really is an entity or not, and it's never anything more than the IC belief of a bunch of people. Perhaps their IC belief in itself is enough to grant whatever "holy powers" their priests and paladins have? Perhaps they have their own captive Naaru and are siphoning off power like the belf paladins did? Just keep it all as "perhaps", and I really can't see how it could ever hurt anything. What the members of this guild choose to believe ICly, tbh, is nothing any of us should feel we have a say about.))

*As Charrence reads the last part of the text..

'I urge the Touched that read this to contact me, Helfen Brent, and we will decide together what to do. You do not have to join the Knell if you do not want to.

Arakor guide your way.
'

.. he is overcome with a need! Racing to the nearest mailbox, Charrence mails Helfen Brent a business card from the 'Death becomes you' undertaking service. Knowing that surely if the religion goes south and funny colored drinks are passed out that services might be needed.*

(( Group suicide! Yes. When's the next comet?

Alelsa, thanks for your input. That was spot on with what I was going for with the concept. Since I've said in this thread that I want to have Arakor be fake, and I've also said real, that helps with the ambiguity immensely.

I've amended the first post to include guild-related information. Thanks everyone for their advice! ))

Tyr raises an eyebrow at the mysterious note. After all, who knows what the hell an Arakor is supposed to be, eh? Shrugging, Tyr rolls up the paper and tosses it behind her. Her wintersaber, Pip, sniffs the paper curiously. Tyr shakes her head and calls back.

"Don't eat that, Pip, might give you heartburn"

((But OOCly I think this is a neat idea! :) ))
