How to roleplay a Night Elf.

Melyria, can we make pretty night elf babies together?

Edit: I know how to cook kimchi and rice cakes.

HEY. BACK OFF. She's my adopted tauren baby's mother!

Your baby was already made... and it's not even an elf! :O

I can still cook!

Pfft. You probably learn it from those Pilgrim washouts. I learned IN THE FIELD. I can make a five-star salad out of a bloody rock and toenails! TOENAILS.

Improvising does not equal an ability to cook cuisine!

I'm not sure if arrogant is the right word, for the night elves anyway. They're the really, really old guy at the shoe store reaching up for the pair on the highest shelf. Then that young blonde chick comes up and offers him help and he yells "No! Dag nabit! I'm eighty years old, I can get my own damned shoes! Why back in my day we did this twice a day, uphill, in the snow!"

Except that 80 year old man really looks 17 with rippling pecks and nice hair.

Ah dinne ken if yer a bit fancy but if ye shiny th' lasses ah'll teach ye t'love Ironforge right quick. It ain't th' forge thas heatin' up, by ye!

Very well done, Mel. Thank you for taking such time to research so much.

You're point? Night Elves have a tendency to be racists, they're elves. I see far too many people bashing characters who're racists over the stigmatism placed on it in politically correct areas of the world.

Sorry, but even I have to interject here.

Many people use Tyrande as an example to make the night elves appear that way. Yet not once were her comments racist. She did not use any slur towards humans, dwarves, gnomes or even the orcs when they first met. She kept referring to them as "outlanders" or "mortals" if anything. Using the word "outlander" as a disparaging term falls far more into the category of xenophobia, not racism. It shows an excessive fear and dislike of outsiders, and she had quite a good reason for it, considering she thought even the humans were responsible for the death of Cenarius.

We know better now, don't we?

With that being said, of course people are going to bash racist night elves. Thure is as traditional as you can get. But why exactly should a night elf continue to have such severe distrust against a human even when they're there to fight back the invading Horde? Varian Wrynn personally fought in the battle of Warsong Gulch, offers wood from his own land of Elwynn to stop the Horde's resource campaign in Ashenvale, and in the Cataclysm issues a formal decree for ALL Alliance members to help Ashenvale.

By insulting the humans, dwarves, gnomes and draenei, you would be insulting people that some night elves call their dear friends, people they owe their lives to. If the night elves could be self-sufficient and kick ass on their own, I couldn't be happier. But the fact is, the Alliance is on Kalimdor to help. Not to colonize, not to invade, but to help. Something I can't say about the tauren that are loyal to the Horde (not the Cenarion Circle, mind you), yet I still see more love and respect towards them. A night elf that can't accept that is stuck in a time vacuum. As appealing and interesting as it might be to roleplay someone like that, they're lagging behind. Tyrande put it aside, Malfurion put it aside, why not YOU, my brother of the night?

I loved Fandral Staghelm. I still do. But if every night elf was like him, Teldrassil would be a smoking bonfire. Unless every racist night elf can make up for batallions of draenei vindicators, human soldiers, dwarven siege tanks, gnomish planes and worgen support, they really have no room to talk or be appreciated.

We don't have the luxury of being racist.

Long cookery discussion

Well, I'm sure your ELF BABY will just love to hear that there's no din-din because Daddy elf couldn't find his fine spices out in Ashenvale. Because the Horde destroyed them all with flaming catapults.

Meanwhile, Mel and I and our ENDANGERED COW BABY (Who's name will be Elyrin - You can name the next one, dear) will be happily feasting on ash soup and charred Nightsaber steak.

The images of both senarios make me sad face. I have an idea! We share! :D

It now comes to my attention the first post was flagged, judging from the hazard sign... I hope it's for a sticky. :(

That's how your report for stickies. I do appreciate all the kind words people have been putting forth both here and in game! Keep the discussions and bumping going!

Edit: I'm also taking people's FAQs about Night Elves and Common Misconceptions and adding them to the list.

Couldn't Winterspring fall under possible places Night Elves were born or live as well?

What, you've never heard of the Eskimo elf, or the Elfskimo?

Doh, I misread something back there. For some reason, I didn't think Winterspring was included in Night Elf territories! I read "North of the Barrens", but I was thinking Azshara and Winterspring were always more of a Highborne land. Azshara WAS named after their treasonous queen, after all.

I think my question is better worded as if the areas are considered as sacred, given their former heavy Highborne populous. I know some Night Elves may even curse Azshara (much in the same way many curse it for it's obscure quests).

I'll add Starfall Village to the list of possibles.

Well, after you put it that way, I agree with you as well Eld, misunderstanding on my part. And yes, sorry for going a little overboard with the wall of text. @_@
