You're point? Night Elves have a tendency to be racists, they're elves. I see far too many people bashing characters who're racists over the stigmatism placed on it in politically correct areas of the world.

You're just a ray of sunshine, aren't you? My point is that Night Elves (most of them, anyway) are supposed to be intelligent and have the wisdom that comes with thousands of years of life. It is neither smart nor wise to anger and exclude those who are offering to help you in a dire situation.

Gnome: "We can repair those glaive throwers the horde destroyed and help you fortify your outpost." Night Elf: "Screw off. We don't like your kind here." Orc: "This is too easy."

Age =/= Wisdom

Age is a breeder of arrogance, hostility, and stubbornness. You grow old and you become sure of your experiences; sure that you are right and the young are wrong, you become increasingly angry with things that you do not agree with and you want to just shift into a cat and scratch the offender's face off for offending you. You become sure that the old ways are best, that change is an evil creation of the ignorant races.

My character very much fits into that, he's old; he believes he is awesome and powerful when he isn't, he grows easily frustrated with people and their bickering and their chit chat. He hates the loosened traditions of Kal'dorei society, female druids, male priests, letting young humans run amok and get married in sacred Kal'dorei temples, the list goes on.

I like the guide but I'm upset that people keep adding an apostrophe to Kaldorei when it shouldn't be there in the first place.

Kael'thas and Illidan were old. Not to mention Azshara. And they formed the League of Extraordinary Evil Elves.

This was really helpful! I have a languishing Nelf alt on a rp-pvp server, half-abandoned because I didn't feel confident enough in my knowledge of their lore to come up with an appropriate backstory/persona. This really helped me get more of a feel for their cultural personality. :)

Just to add something here whilst my seven days of activity allow me to. Your thread is pretty good, but I should point out:

Age

The true Night Elf age, without their immortality, is unknown. However one can speculate using Blood Elf aging (who were at one point Kaldorei and have been cut off from their immortality). If Blood Elves are of any indication, Night Elves live for approximately three hundred years before naturally dying; however some are capable of living for a thousand years even without immortality.

Kaldorei also seem to have a similar rate of growth as humans. Shandris Feathermoon was a young woman at the age of 16 when the War of the Ancients broke out. It is likely that once Night Elves reach a specific age, possibly their mid twenties or thirties, their aging process slowly down or stops completely.

It is said that Night Elves reach adulthood in the eyes of the society at approximately 100 years of age.

While you're quite correct in most of this section, you went off the rails at the last line, unfortunately. Tyrande was in her early twenties while Malfurion and Illidan were in their late twenties during the War of the Ancients. They were all seen and treated as adults by the rest of Night Elf society. The old statement that Night Elves are considered adults at 100 is now obsolete and retconned.

Nope. Knaak specifically made mention that Malfurion was only in his "third decade of life" and Tyrande was only a few years younger than him and Illidan.

This is an excellent thread. Sadly, this toon is becoming a troll tomorrow, should the patch go through smoothly. During my time on the Alliance, I never found satisfactory RP. I did see RP beyond the annoying, 'let's pretend we're cats,' RP in the Park (yay for it being destroyed tomorrow!) but I never saw RP in Darnassus. At least, not open RP.

I hope that a lot of people read this guide and take it to heart. It is full of a lot of useful information. I, too, was annoyed at all of the 'purple humans,' I saw, when looking for someone to engage in 'real' nelf RP with. After you walk by so many 5'5 105 pound Nelf countesses, vampires, etc....you grow a bit disheartened. :/

Gender Roles

Men
Men in traditional Kaldorei culture are the reverse of human culture. In Night Elf society men used to be the artisans, craftsmen and homemakers of the race. Relatively few men were druids but that order within the culture was almost entirely male. Men seemed to take care of children in the same way human females do, often worrying or doting on their children as seen in the game. In this way, a traditional nuclear family would have the man staying home and looking after the kids.

Modern night elves can master the arcane, although doing so will change him forever. Once a night elf learned to use arcane spellcasting, he suffered a painful transformation that stripped away his native night elf adaptations and replaced them with those of the Highborne elves. The complete change occurred within the space of a week and could not be reversed once started. However, though stripped of his racial heritage, in this early era his physical attributes would not change.

Is this to say Highborne can't Shadowmeld or that they don't have Darkvision?

All elves have low light vision. Shadowmelding I can't comment on.

I truly do hate what Knaak does to WoW. Were he not accepted as official lore, I'd ignore him entirely... but, I have to live with it... *Sigh.*
