Best RP Servers

Earthen Ring is decent for RP, though it's kinda high-population right now.

All in all I'd just look for an actual RP "guild" rather than server. It may be nice to see people in trade or otherwise be participating, but as long as you got a tight-knit guild that participates, that should be all that matters.
But it isn't. The fact that I've been successfully RPing on Wyrmrest since it opened and have been unguilded for a majority of that time speaks volumes.

That there's a community of roleplayers that get out and RP with each other is really what matters to me. On my main (Aima up there), I've run and participated in a Gathering of the Druids where younger druids got Shan'dos and more experienced ones got Thero'shans, holiday events and story circles. I've even run a few on Loreynna. Having a close knit circle is awesome, no doubt about that, but really, the community is what makes me love the server.

Looking for a guild first, server second is sort of odd to me. Lots of guilds I've encountered require a certain level limit - if you get up to that level, only to find you really don't like the character after all, or after interacting with the guild, figuring out they're really not what you were looking for... sort of seems like a waste of time and a lot of effort for little reward to me. Server first, then guild. If you take all of the guilds of all the RP servers... I can't imagine what that would be like.

On Wyrmrest, we've got a number of kaldorei guilds for a variety of different elves, Light-based guilds (even a very well played Scarlet guild), Tauren and troll tribes, a long standing Brotherhood of Iron, Forsaken military, gnomish pride, a few blood elf houses, some Gilnean and goblin guilds that have been in the works since the races have been announced and so on. Actually, the only two races that are lacking in the "their own guild" department are orcs and draenei. Poor Draenor..ians.. We have general Alliance guilds, general Horde guilds and theme guilds - Silvermoon Academy is based in Silvermoon but is open to all races as a sort of collegiate experience. We have the Brightmoon Faire as grab-bag of carneys. We've got a few Lordaeron survivor guilds, a few pirates roaming the seas, along with a few Kul Tirans. Cross faction RP events are a bit rarer than they used to be these days, but they still happen pretty successfully. The raider and PvPer communities are on pretty good terms with the RP community, since a number of our RPers actually get out and raid and PvP - hard to troll something half of your guild participates in.

Guilds are great! But servers where it's all locked up into guilds that don't talk to each other make me sad face. :(

There's not much talk of it around here, but I'm from Silverhand, and there is RP. Caelestis Templares like myself, Alahni Lo Andu, and others still keep up the old traditions Alliance side. Ironsong tribe still have marches Horde side from what I hear.

The Cathedral district still bustles with people standing around, and sometimes you'll even hear trade announcements that a tavern has opened up. You'll get plenty of odd looks since there are so many people who missed out on the whole RP tag thing just to play with their friends.

We also have the benefit of having Leftovers Raiding Organization which allows us RP guilds to raid without leaving our beloved guilds.

Boooo Caelestis Templares! Hissss!

Just messin' with ya. I used to be on Silver Hand, but after going to Wyrmrest Accord, I can honestly say I don't miss it. CT seemed to be the only really active RP guild around, but unfortunately it was "Be a zealot paladin or GTFO". Which would be fine, if it wasn't the only good RP guild available. And yes, it is the only good RP guild available as far as I care to mention. The others either aren't around as often, or they meta-game. (I'm looking at you, Novus Domus.)

The numbers are a bit off. Moon guard has way more horde than that. Its more even, if anything a bit more in favor of the horde.

Pretty much this.

Moon Guard definitely has a heavier Horde population than what's on Alliance. Might be why we always have Wintergrasp.

It's pretty wrong for Ravenholdt as well.

I am, for all intents and purposes, head over heels for Moon Guard. I cannot tell you it's the best out there, for I haven't done much looking around, but what I can tell you is, RP is everywhere here. Even while leveling, I could find a random person to RP with, and most are friendly good people. SW is packed, and just about any kind of RPer could enjoy it here, casual or no. Now if only Otto would let us have the AH back(inside joke for any ally on MG ;D).

Gonna go ahead and toss Earthen Ring in here.

Alliance has more random RP. Mostly centered around Stormwind where you can walk around some of the districts and find roleplayers.
Horde is, sadly, more guild and event centric. Us Allies have events and such of course, but Horde lacks that "There's people here!" feeling!

Feel free to join the channels /forthealliance or /forthehorde and ask regarding our roleplay.

We also have Earthen.Ning.Com

I RP mainly on Farstriders horde side, and if you get into a guild *of which there are plenty* then you'll be set, check out our forum, Sahare has a great list of our RP guilds (I'm pretty sure it's only horde side listed though* I have also RPed on wyrmrest Accord ally side, and I rather enjoy it, however I wasn't able to find a guild that fit me so I didn't get all that I had hoped out of it *what's the point of RPing if you don't have a purpose, right?* I recommend Farstriders first and then Wyrmrest Accord ^_^

*~*Edit*~*
That's not to say that you have to be in a guild to find RP only that it helps to better ground yourself to the RP community. If you roll a character on Farstriders, hit me up

Feathermoon has some decent Alliance-side RP, but I can't speak for the Horde-side RP as I never took the chance.

Moonguard is decent Horde-side but awful (personal experience) Alliance-side.

Wyrmrest Accord is decent Alliance-side but awful (see above) Horde-side.

The latter two are your best bet in any case, I'd say.

Don't go to Sisters of Elune for Horde. Its practically dead. Mentioning that since someone spoke of SoE Alliance side in one of these pages.

And from an outside perspective from what I saw with the Moonguard v Wyrmrest debate (as I'm looking for a new home to RP on and scoped out both servers recently)

MG, the days I was on, I saw more Alliance side than Horde. But, if the actual people on the server say that its more Horde dominant for RP, then I'd have to go with their word. MG was packed with various types of RP and much of it in the open, which made me very happy to witness. But, it was like most other servers where you have the good muddled in with some of the bad and the downright... Well, dumb. The way that the RPers at Stormwind handled the city invasion event won my heart as they rallied together.

Wyrmrest, I have not scoped out Horde, admittedly. But on the Alliance side, it seems that RP is there, but quieter. It was seen on the streets, but it wasn't always in your face, and you had to look a bit for it. Yet, the quality, even of the character profiles I saw within RP addons trounced what I saw of MG. Even the way that people were RPing openly, I actually stood there and watched as a silly low level, and no one questioned or batted an eye in my direction. And I actually sent a good number of these people whispers commending them on their RP abilities. I saw much less Sue-ness than what I saw on MG (could have just been the time and day, really), and it was all very well thought out scenarios, even for random walk up RP. Yet, the numbers seem to be a bit more quieter.

So, I highly recommend going onto these servers and scoping the scene itself. The city invasion event is a perfect time to see some RP in spontaneous action and see how they rally together and roll with it. For my personal preference, while MG had more overall, I chose to roll Wyrmrest. To me quality > quantity - and admittedly, its just from what I saw over the span of a few weeks, so take my words with a grain of salt and roll on the servers to see for yourself.

I'd highly recommend Blackwater Raiders for roleplayers interested in a good community. We have a supportive environment, a strong calendar of events, and several support guilds that make it a point to host events for the server, rather than for themselves.

I'm odd in that I've rolled on several servers, and played them for a few months. I didn't just "pick one" and then try to make it work for me. I also didn't throw in the towel and transfer around repeatedly whenever something upset me. I did, however, try out BwR the first few days that it opened, and I've never looked back.

It's had its ups and downs, but by and large it's been the strongest environment for good people who care about their fellow players--which *gasp* is sometimes more important than good story or a great RP armor set.
Ravenholdt may not the best RP(PVP) realm, but it certainly isn't the worst. For a great roleplaying experience, here are my advices:
  • Choose: Since Ravenholdt is a "Burning Crusade realm", the amount of Blood Elves on the realm is unbelievable. This causes a certain faction imbalance, and because of this, most new Horde (role)players are disrespectfully unwelcome on the realm (forums). This must not stop you from making a character to your liking. It is your character, after all.

  • Create: Ravenholdt has not the highest population, let alone of roleplayers. I do not recommend standing in the middle of Orgrimmar and think "There's no RP going on here!" And instead of heading to Silvermoon City (please don't), walk around the city or villages and interact with people yourself, even if they aren't flagged with RP addons such as MyRolePlay. You will eventually be noticed by the roleplaying community and who knows, perhaps have other people discover it!

  • Conclude: Once you've actively searched for roleplaying on Ravenholdt, question yourself on your experience. Is the realm what you've been longing for? Does it not feel like home should? Are you traumatized for life? Whichever the case may be, make sure to be honest!
Finally, the Ravenholdt Roleplaying Sanctum is a website for the roleplaying community of Ravenholdt. It usually is much more welcoming than the Ravenholdt's realm forums. Check it out! For more information: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1074087866

I'm shirtless holding a collectors addition copy of Lord of the Rings trilogy.

You now know where to go for awesome RP.

Ravenholdt is an awesome RP community, but that's just what it is: A community. When I jumped off the sinking ship that was Thorium Failhood, I was lucky to find myself on an awesome server when I came to Ravenholdt. I had to read the forums on the WoW Wesbite, but then I discovered their own personal server website, (RavenholdtSanctum.us) I fell in love with just how awesome these guys were.

Admittingly you do have to kind of be a social type of person to get into the community and get into some awesome RP, but they're all an easy going group and will accept anyone who wants to join in as long as they're there for the joy of the ride.

In case you RP an antisocial creeper and you're afraid you can't get into RP, none to worry! My character is so antisocial he sometimes talks to people from behind a bush.

For rizzle though, all these servers being listed are great RP communities. Just.. Don't go to Thorium Brotherhood. I apologize, TB, but your community has washed up because all of the prime RPers transferred to Ravenholdt. Lol.
